ADEBUNMI GBADEBO, A DILEMMA OF INHERITANCE “We recognize our lineage as a generational trust, as inheritance, and the real dilemma posed by reparations is just that: a dilemma of inheritance. It is impossible to imagine America without the inheritance of slavery.” Ta-Nehisi CoatesSCHEDULE

NOW REPRESENTING GIO SWABY My work revolves around an exploration of identity, more specifically, the intersections of Blackness and womanhood. I am interested in the ways in which this physical identity can serve as a positive force of connection and closeness, while also examining its imposed relationship to otherness. NEWARK MUSEUM ACQUIRES MAJOR WORK BY CONTEMPORARY ARTIST BISA BUTLER The Newark Museum of Art has acquired a large-scale artwork by Essex County resident Bisa Butler, a rising star among contemporary Black artists in the United States, known for her quilted portraits celebrating Black life. BARBARA EARL THOMAS: THE GEOGRAPHY OF INNOCENTS @ SEATTLE ART MUSEUM Barbara Earl Thomas draws from history, literature, folklore, and biblical stories to address what she calls the plagues of our day, from pervasive violence against Black men and youth to gun violence tothe climate crisis.
THE MACABRE STAINED GLASS OF JUDITH SCHAECTHER “When we despair,” Schaechter said, “it is beauty that saves us, not reasoning and logical argument. The capacity for beauty in the human brain as it interfaces with nature is a marvelous and life-affirming thing.”ART and Object
LEONARDO BENZANT
I imagine myself as an Urban Shaman exploring both my familiar visible world and the hidden dimensions of other realms that lurk beneath the surface of daily life. The sense of personal cosmology in my practice grows from both experiencing and observing the details of everydaylife and ritual.
