NEW PROTECTED TREES ORDINANCE ( S.M.M.C. 13.40 The “Protected Trees” Ordinance (S.M.M.C 13.40) was adopted by San Mateo City Council on May 3, 2021. This new ordinance takes effect July 1, 2021 and replaces the existing “Street Trees” Ordinance (13.35) and “Heritage Trees” Ordinance (13.52). RENTER AND BUSINESS EVICTION PROTECTIONS The COVID-19 Tenant Relief Act (SB 91) – an extension of the statewide eviction moratorium provided in AB 3088 – was signed into law on January 29, 2021. The Senate Bill protects tenants from evictions based on nonpayment of rent due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic and will be in effect from February 1, 2021 to July1, 2021.
