No BUILDING PERMITS & HANDOUTS Building a new home requires lots of planning. Once you have your plans drawn up; it is time to apply for a building permit. Landowners are allowed to build their own homes in the City of Marion; however, licensed sub-contractors for electrical, mechanical, and plumbing must be utilized for those trades.. In order to obtain a permit, several pieces of information need to be submitted for review. Yard Waste. Yard waste is collected curbside from the first full week in April to the last full week in November, dates may be amended due to weather conditions. ARTS & ENVIRONMENT CENTER Located within the confines of beautiful Lowe Park, 4500 N 10th Street, the Arts and Environment Center is a multi-use facility that is managed by the Parks and Recreation Department. As part of the recently completed Zoning Code update, all City zoning districts will have new names; however, the permitted uses and development standards for many districts, particularly the residential districts, will not substantially change.Because the zoning districts are being renamed, every property in Marion must be “rezoned” into the new districts. Residents are now able to dispose of grass clippings, plants, brush and tree limbs (no larger than 6 inches in diameter) seven days aweek.
* Marion Public Library to launchEarly Bird Hour
This self-service hour will increase access to valuable services like picking up holds, browsing, using the self-check machine, returning materials, accessing the public computers with a library card and using the library’s printer/copier/fax machine/DOT kiosk. * Trick-or-Treat at City Hall and Marion Public Library Visit City Hall from 3-5 p.m. on Halloween and collect candy and other treats from staff on both floors at City Hall. Marion Public Library will provide treats at each of the desks during normal business hourson Halloween.
