– A 3 1/2-year-old captive raised white-tailed buck harvested in early January by a hunter from a release site on a ranch in Medina and Uvalde counties has been confirmed positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD). The deer’s origin has been identified as an onsite deer breeding facility and the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) and Texas Animal Health Commission (TAHC) are conducting an epidemiological investigation. Cody Jones
As I read through the posts from all of the wonderful supporters of the Jones family, it is hard to imagine how even a small minority of people can be so insensitive. Kendall Jones, a Texas Tech Cheerleader and high profile hunter born and raised in Texas understands this as well as anyone. Kendall’s father, Cody, was tragically killed late last week in a vehicle accident, so naturally, thousands of supporters, well wishers and yes, even haters left comments on Kendall Facebook page. There is no question that there is widespread division (albeit grossly lopsided) on the subject of hunting and even fishing, much of it fueled on social media and as much by mainstream media. You should read some of the ridiculousness spilled on the web, directed at and about this family and others like them. I myself have been slandered by the anti-hunting establishment because I am a taxidermist and I haven’t even hunted in several years! Now, here’s my take…Its ok to have an opinion and even strong feelings about something…that’s the beauty of being an American. We could all agree to disagree and continue to support and defend our own positions without getting aggressively personal, but that is not going to happen because there will always be mouthy extremists who operate solely on emotion. PRESIDENT OBAMA SIGNS NRA-BACKED MEASURES INTO LAW Posted on December 11, 2015by Citizen Network
Standard Reply
FAIRFAX, VA. – President Barack Obama signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It includes several NRA-backed provisions — expanding gun rights on stateside military bases; prohibiting the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from banning traditional ammunition; and saving taxpayer dollars by allowing gun collectors to buy vintage military surplus pistols. The NDAA includes an NRA-backed provision requiring the Secretary of Defense to establish a process for commanders at military bases, reserve centers, and recruiting centers to allow service members assigned to that base or facility to carry a firearm. After the July murder of four Marines and a police officer at two Tennessee recruiting centers, the NRA called for a policy change to allow military personnel to carry weapons while on station. This NDAA provision is a good first step in the effort to fully restore the Second Amendment rights of military personnel. “The brave men and women in our Armed Forces should not be left defenseless against terrorists on American soil. Local commanders now have the authority to allow service men and women to be armed while on base. Members of the military should have the same ability to defend themselves as every other law-abiding citizen,” said Chris W. Cox, executive director of the National Rifle Association Institute forLegislative Action.
Another NRA-backed provision in the NDAA prohibits the EPA from banning traditional ammunition under the Toxic Substances Control Act. This provision is necessary because extreme anti-hunting groups have filed multiple petitions with the EPA to ban the use of lead ammunition. Those petitions have been rejected, but those groups use the administrative rejections as an excuse to sue the agency in pursuit of the same restrictions. “Prohibiting the EPA from banning traditional ammunition is a huge victory for hunters, recreational sportsmen and our military,” said Cox. “This ensures that our military, hunters and sportsmen will have access to traditional ammunition at a reasonable cost.” The NDAA also includes a cost-saving provision that allows the U.S. Army to transfer its surplus vintage firearms to the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) for public sale. Currently, the Army stores excess M1911A1 pistols in a warehouse costing taxpayers approximately $200,000 a year. Transferring these vintage pistols to the CMP will allow them to inspect, grade, and ultimately sell these pistols through federally licensed firearms dealers. “The NDAA puts an end to the wasteful government practice of warehousing firearms. It’s a common sense measure that saves taxpayers money and allows gun collectors to add a sought after vintage sidearm to their collection,” added Cox. “The enactment of these common sense, NRA-backed provisions into law is a result of the American people electing a pro-Second Amendment majority to the United States Congress. On behalf of our members, I want to thank all those lawmakers who stood firmly on the side of freedom, ” concluded Cox. ------------------------- Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group. More than five million members strong, NRA continues to uphold the Second Amendment and advocates enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime. The Association remains the nation’s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the armed services. Be sure to follow the NRA on Facebook at NRA onFacebook and

Let’s
talk about Taxidermy prices for a minute. As an avid hunter myself, I can relate to the fact that hunting and fishing are expensive and time consuming hobbies. A lot of money is investing in licenses, trips, guns, bows, leases, trucks, 4 wheelers, clothing, tree-stands…it is an endless sea of consumer merchandise targeting hunting enthusiasts. The goal of all of that time and expense is to enjoy being one with nature, right? Wrong! Well, maybe that is part of it but next to having a freezer full of wild meat, most of us are after one thing…big horns. So after all of that time and expense, why would you settle for anything less than the highest quality when it comes to getting it mounted? Continue readingCOMMON SENSE
