The provincial, territorial and federal governments, in cooperation with stakeholders and members of the public, will pursue the implementation of the strategic directionsBIODIVERSITY LOSS
Causes Fundamental Cause The root causes of biodiversity loss are population growth and increasing natural resource consumption. The world's population has more than tripled in the 20th Century and projections show that continued growth is expected over the next 50 years. At the present pace, the Earth's renewable resources are rapidly being depleted. Effective monitoring programs include organization and documentation of datasets, secure storage in long-term, searchable archives, and regular review and quality checks. With advances in technology, datasets have become larger and 2020 BIODIVERSITY GOALS AND TARGETS FOR CANADA In order to achieve their long-term biodiversity outcomes, federal, provincial and territorial governments endorsed the following set of new medium-term goals and targets. These aspirational goals and targets describe results to be achieved through the collective efforts of a diversity of players both public and private whose actions and decisions have an impact on biodiversity. The forests have been categorized broadly as tropical wet lowland evergreen forests (at elevations between 0-1000 m); wet sub-montane forests (at elevations between 1000-1500 m in the wetzone); wet
PRIMARY PRODUCTIVITY Primary productivity increased significantly on 22% of Canada's vegetated land area between 1985 and 2006 and decreased on less than 1% of land. 1 This trend in primary productivity is based on changes in the normalized-difference vegetation index (NDVI), a remote-sensing based measurement of photosynthetic activity – it is a good indicator of the amount of healthy green vegetation. 2-4 THE ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AND POLLUTION CONTROL ACT The Act was enacted in 1990. _Abc Taxa_ is a series of peer-reviewed manuals dedicated to capacity building in zoological and botanical taxonomy, in collection management and in good practices in taxonomic and curatorial research. It facilitates the liberation of taxonomic and curatorial skills, competences and know-how needed to carry out basic to advanced taxonomic research on a particular living taxon. _Abc Taxa_ also intends to act as speaker's corner for those experts who have the skills to communicate on good practices in taxonomic research.Zoological taxonomy

_Abc Taxa_ is the product of the Belgian National Focal Point to the Global Taxonomy Initiative, but the series is the joint effort of the three main Belgian natural history institutions, being the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (Brussels), the Royal Museum for Central Africa (Tervuren) and the National Botanic Garden of Belgium (Meise). These institutions cooperate on an open and constructive basis with their specific several national and international partners. Funding for the production of these manuals is entirely provided by the Belgian Development Cooperation .Copyright Feedback
