The Chinese Museum’s building, located in the heart of Chinatown, was built by the Cohen Bros. in 1890 and used originally as a furniture warehouse. It was acquired in 1984 by the Victorian State Government to enable the establishment of a Museum to provide the CHINESE INK PAINTING Chinese Ink Painting. Subjects: Visual Arts / History / Intercultural Capability. Cost: $9.50 per student. Duration: 1 hour. Like calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting is done using a brush dipped in black or coloured inks, usually on paper or silk. It is also called shuimo which translates to ‘watercolour and ink’. THE CHINESE MUSEUM IS RISING TO A NEW LEVEL On 20 May, we launched our ambitious long-term plan to enlarge the Museum’s facility to cater for our growing needs as a heritage, cultural, educational ONE MILLION STORIES: CHINESE AUSTRALIANS 200 YEARS Permanent Exhibition. 2018 marked 200 years since the first Chinese person migrated to Australia. The Chinese Museum has established the first nationwide story WHO WE ARE PROJECT LAUNCH Developed by the Museum and supported by the Australian Embassy in Beijing, Who We Are is an 8-part video series that aims to celebrate Australia’s multicultural heritage – providing insights into the immigration journeys of Chinese-Australians and their significant participation in contemporary Australian society. The project was launched in Beijing, China on 24 May and the first episode NEW PILOT PROGRAM FOR SECONDARY SCHOOLS: AUSTRALIA-CHINA Latest. New pilot program for secondary schools: Australia-China Relationship. We have developed a new, up to date program for secondary students to gain a better contextual understanding of the Australia-China relationship.

Museum of Chinese Australian History acknowledges Aboriginal Traditional Owners of Country throughout Australia and pays respect to their cultures and Elders past, present and emerging. MUSEUM MIGRATES TO A NEW COLLECTIONS MANAGEMENT SYSTEM After more than six months of research and consultations with other local and international museums/archives, researchers, and IT specialists to understand criteria for a better suited but affordable CMS, the museum has decided to shift from our current Collections Management System (CMS) into CatalogIt.The migration process is currently underway and expected to be completed in the HOME - CHINESE-AUSTRALIAN HISTORICAL IMAGES IN AUSTRALIA Home - Chinese-Australian Historical Images in Australia - This is a catalogue of historical images of Chinese held in Australia from a range of publications, public and private collections.
