THURSDAY, 27 JUNE 2019 IN MY HOUR OF NEED, THEY ALWAYS COME BACK TO ME - 5X20 A few nights ago I was lying in bed in my parents house in Vancouver thinking to myself about how _tired_ I was and how it would be nice if I just didn't have to wake up in the morning. Then I realized how dark that was and immediately began making up a plan to book an appointment with a therapist in Toronto because clearly I needed help. It's been one year since I graduated and I am having very little luck establishing myself as a psychotherapist. Also, the cherry on the cake - I failed my licensing exam and I have two more chances to try again. I was running out of hope. I was running out of energy. I didn't know

what to do.

Then. 5x20 came out. I went on twitter and I saw tweet upon tweet of people gushing about the PV. Of 5x20. Of Arashi. As I have been doing for the past 6 months since the new year, I scrolled past these tweets without a second thought. I haven't been following Arashi at all. I've barely been on twitter. I barely know what Arashi is doing nowadays. I only just realized they were doing WWG. But, there was something about these tweets that stuck in my head and so, I dusted off my old livejournal account and downloaded the album and PV and extras and

everything.

And I sat there, and watched it all. The PV. The making of. The concert clip compilation. I'm currently blasting Arashi off my laptop - something I haven't done since Untitled came out in 2017. I feel like I've come home. I can feel the _tadaima_ on the edge of my lips, bouncing around in my brain. I'm back. I'm home. I've missed all

of you.

I opened random performances. I downloaded various clips I'd missed. I enjoyed all of it. I wasn't nitpicking at silly dancing or frowning at what they were wearing - I was just blown away at how happy I was to see them again. Which is funny because I've been vaguely seeing them on tumblr and twitter, but... to really see them again. To pay attention. To watch them do their thing as Arashi. It just reminded me of everything they've meant to me - of how _much_ they mean to me and

of _why_.

I will say this forever and ever until my dying days, but Arashi has and will always be the biggest inspiration in my life. Even now.

Definitely forever.

I was literally at the end of my rope and hearing their songs again, seeing them again just being themselves, rewatching their concerts... it just blows me away. I'm singing along to their songs with the biggest, stupidest, smile on my face. I'm dancing in my chair. I feel hopeful. Inspired. In awe. I am filled with so much respect and admiration. Arashi aren't just "idols" - they are truly my idols in every sense of that word. I will never look up to anyone as much as I look up to the five of them.

Ever.

I know that "Arashi" will always exist, even if just in spirit, to us the fans and also for the five of them as well, and

MONDAY, 4 FEBRUARY 2019 KINGDOM HEARTS 3 REVIEW So, I literally just beat Kingdom Hearts 3 about an hour ago and boy do I have thoughts on the game. TUESDAY, 1 JANUARY 2019 A MUCH NEEDED CHANGE FOR 2019 PLEASE? 2018 has been a _wild ride_ to say the least. I sort of knew going in to it that it would probably be one of the more pivotal years of my life just due to the fact that I was graduating, but I was not prepared for just how much would... happen to me this year, is I guess the best way to put it. Which is a bit ironic, because I knew many things would be happening to me - so the fact that I was still surprised probably says something about how I prepared myself. Anyway. I actually wrote and posted this just around the new year with my usual set of questions, but I felt very unsatisfied by the original so now - nearly a full month into 2019, I'm re-writing my post and doing a new reflection of 2018 with some new questions, some old questions, and hopefully a more in-depth and proper reflection of what 2018 was really like for me. So, as per the usual - let's get started!

MONDAY, 17 DECEMBER 2018 MY BROTHER'S HUSBAND

Hello!

Fun story - I actually translated this drama way back when it first aired and then was much too lazy to do the timing for it when a very nice person AMH1988 over at livejournal posted up pre-timed files over at SUB SUB GAKKOU

Which means I can now provide softsubs to you! RULES: ...None. My name doesn't even appear on the subs. If you are going to re-translate or hardsub though, just give me a heads up ^_^. CREDITS FOR TIMING GO TO AMH1988@LJ who I'm also told moderates AO NO MICHI (the subbing community). They'll also be uploading hardsubs of the drama (with my translations), so if you prefer that I'll provide a link to those as well when they pop up. The videos I used to time the file are from Nyaa torrents, but I think it's the same video file located in other places as well.

By the way I really recommend this drama. It's super cute slice-of-life that touches on LGBTQ topics in one of the best ways - by just encouraging open-mindedness and the mindblowing concept that gay people are just.... regular people???!! WHAT. But no, seriously, it's lovely. It revolves around Yaichi, his daughter Kana, and Mike, the husband to Yaichi's late brother Ryoji. It's super cute because it shows Kana's complete openness to Mike being gay which is adorable and really runs home the fact that children really don't care about sexual orientation - they're taught to discriminate, but if you just present being gay to them as something that just _is_, it won't be a big deal! It also deals with Yaichi who is an adult and has clearly struggled with the idea of his twin brother being gay, and how he slowly comes to accept and realize that it doesn't make a different either - that Ryoji was and will always have been his brother, and Mike is now his brother-in-law and that they're a family, gay uncle or not. The supporting cast and how they react to Mike is also really great. It's just such a nice and heartwarming way to give representation.

TUESDAY, 27 NOVEMBER 2018 MY THOUGHTS ON THE DARK SOUL SERIES Alrighty. For those who actually bother to read my posts about video games - you may have noticed I haven't mentioned games in a while and that is _not_ because I stopped playing them. In fact, I have been steadily playing certain games - specifically, I've been attempting to get through the Soulsborne series (minus Demon Souls). Since I am not a great gamer, and I was very busy with school for a while (plus subbing 99.9 SII), this has taken me a lot longer than anticipated, but here I am, with Dark Souls 1, 2, 3 all finished for me to talk about. I will make a separate post about Bloodborne when I beat it :) Warning: This is going to be a _long_ post since it's pretty much three game reviews in one. Have fun!

THURSDAY, 13 SEPTEMBER 2018 99.9~KEIJISENMON BENGOSHI~ SII + CLOSING COMMENTS I finally released that final episode of 99.9! In September. Apologies for being so slow. I just want to explain some of my translations - mostly the puns. If you have any other questions about the subs leave a comment and I can

answer them.

1. Weekly Vives

Weekly Vives is a manga magazine like Shonen Jump that is the focus of the Juhan Shuttai series.

2. TSURIDAY

This is a pun on the tabloid magazine FRIDAY. TSURIDAY sounds like "_tsurai-day_", with tsurai meaning "tough" or "hard". 3. Fujino's "I doesn" I don't remember if this was a call back to season 1, but essentially Fujino is stumbling on his words. Instead of saying "mottemasu" he keeps saying "mettemasu" and slurring his words so Miyama is struggling to understand whether he's affirming or denying the question. This was my middle ground of showing how he's kind of slurring his sounds unnaturally. 4. This was a real _burner_ phone This was mostly a play on the fact that a lot of flip phones are used as throw-away phones, or what are called "burner phones", which relates back to the whole idea of the phone being linked to the fire

in this case.

5. Hold the phone. Don't let it overheat. Just clear the crap off the

screen

So this entire conversation is a reference to a famous phrase by Tora-san from the "Otoko wa tsurai yo" movie series. The line Miyama is imitating in Japanese is "結構毛だらけー猫灰だらけー､おしの周りはクソだらけーってねえ" although all the だらけ are changed to ガラケー (flip phone). The line itself translates to "There's fur everywhere, ash all over the cat, and crap all around my ass" and was essentially used to get someone to calm down (by expressing just how crazy the situation is). There really was no good way to keep the Japanese phrasing so I tried to just keep the meaning (of Miyama trying to tell Sada to chill out), while still retaining the same sentence pattern and some of the key

vocab.

Sada's later reference to "Sakura" and feeling like "Chieko" are also a reference to Tora-san's younger sister Sakurai, who is played by the actress Baisho Chieko.

CLOSING COMMENTS

I really want to thank GOSHIKI NO FANSUB for helping me with the timing. Honestly without her I probably would have given up by episode 3 (that was about the point I realized I was way in over my head and really didn't have the time to be taking on a project like this

alone).

The puns, play on words, and references this time around got really crazy. I'll be honest, I'm not very proud of these subs. My season 1 subs I was pretty happy with overall, but these subs... it was a struggle. Some challenges I really enjoy because I think they make me better at what I do, but I'm not sure if this was one of those times. I really do apologize for how long this took me. I apologize for any mistakes I made. I really wanted to do a good job, but #life really got in my way. At the same time, I couldn't bring myself to just abandon this project either. To all the people who used my subs and who stuck around with me, thank you so much. I really, really, _really_, appreciate it. I hope you enjoyed the drama!

99.9~KEIJISENMON BENGOSHI~ SII

Hello!

It's me again. So. I made a promise to myself that if there was ever a continuation to 99.9, I would definitely sub it. Now, when I made that promise, I assumed we wouldn't get anything more than an SP episode, but then they announced an entire season 2! Imagine my surprise. And season 2 has now started. For season 1, I had quite a steady schedule in terms of releases. Unfortunately this year, my schedule is very different. I am warning you in advance - I am going to be _very_ slow with releases. If you are impatient and want subs ASAP, please check out the various livejournal communities. I know for a fact that one community has already released episode 1. RULES: ...None. My name doesn't even appear on the subs. If you are going to re-translate or hardsub though, just give me a heads up ^_^. I would also like to credit GOSHIKI NO FANSUB for helping me time all the episodes. Hopefully with their help, and now that episode one is released, I will be able to release the subsequent episodes a _bit_

faster.
