ROBIN BENEDICT MURDER, 1983 Robin Benedict Murder. In March 1983, 21-year old Robin Benedict was brutally murdered by former Tufts professor William Douglas. He confessed to striking her in the head with a 2-1/2 pound sledge hammer, dumping their blood-stained clothes in a trash barrel, discarding her body in a dumpster, and then abandoning her car. Evelyn Wagler Murder. On October 2, 1973, an extremely shocking murder took place on Blue Hill Avenue in Dorchester. A 24-year old woman ran out of gas and was returning to her car from a filling station, when six teenagers forced her to douse herself with gasoline, LADY IN THE ASHES FAMOUS MURDER CASE IN BOSTON Mrs. Alice Arsenault, owner of a lodging house on Columbus Avenue in Boston, was last seen alive on December 25, 1919. On May 12, 1920, her body was discovered under a pile of ashes in the basement of her house. Paul Pappas, a resident at the lodging house, supposedly had an argument with Mrs. Arsenault on the evening of her disappearance. GEORGE PRATT MURDER, KILLED BY A SNIPER DUE TO THE COLOR George Pratt, a 17-year old African-American man, resided at the D-Street Housing Project in South Boston. Pratt had taken a cab from Roxbury to his home in Southie, and after leaving the cab was accosted by two white men. Bottles were thrown at him and racial slurs shouted. A few minutes later, Pratt was shot by a sniper from a nearby rooftop CHARLES STUART, MURDERER OF HIS PREGNANT WIFE CAROL Charles Stuart, Murderer. On October 23, 1989, after attending child-birthing classes at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston, Charles Stuart shot his pregnant wife in the head while driving to the nearby Mission Hill neighborhood in Roxbury. Carol DiMaiti Stuart died a few hours later, with their unborn son Christopher delivered byC-section.

GIANT TEA POT OR TEA KETTLE IN GOVERNMENT CENTER BOSTON Giant Tea Kettle. At Court & Tremont Streets (Government Center) hangs the giant tea kettle "sign" of the old Oriental Tea Company. This huge tea pot was manufactured in 1873 by a company called Hicks & Badger. The sign spent many years on the south side of Scollay Square, and was moved to varying locations in the area as buildings were torn down. ALGER HISS IS RELEASED FROM PRISON (1954) Though Hiss maintained his innocence until his death in 1996, the controversy surrounding his case persists today. Once a US government official, Hiss was accused before the House Un-American Activities Committee of spying for Russia. Though he could not be tried for espionage under the statute of limitations, he was convicted of perjury and served 44 months in prison. Many believed he had been wrongly convicted.
