FIDDLE YARDS

The most common solution is the fiddle yard. This is situated 'off scene' and is usually at the end of a layout or behind it, such as in the example below. A fiddle yard may be no more than a series of loops or sidings, allowing the operator to select where to park and dispatch trains. As a general rule, this is the solution I prefer although WHEELS, FLANGES AND BACK TO BACKS wheels, flanges and back to backs. Wheels of railways are a great deal more complex than first meets the eye. The angles of the tread and the radius between the flange and the tread (blue area) are very carefully worked out to minimise friction and wear.

Push downwards with your hand near where you drill, to stop the panel rising pulling up. I tend to drill a small pilot hole, say 1/8th first. County Gate is a narrow gauge model in 009 of a fictitious extension of the 2 foot narrow gauge Lynton and Barnstable Railway through the East Lyn Valley to Minehead. The car bodies were not initially fitted as the funicular was used to carry all of the building materials for MAKING BUILDINGS IN FOAMBOARD Forex may be an unfamiliar product to most modellers. It is a lightly expanded PVC and comes in sheets, which are perfectly flat. It is used principally for shop fitting, but can be very useful for modelling purposes, notably thanks to its surface finish, which is less smooth than plastic and slightly softer. HOW WE BUILD OUR CONTROL PANELS Bolt the panels together and lay it on a flat piece of timber. Push downwards with your hand near where you drill, to stop the panel rising pulling up. I tend to drill a small pilot hole, say 1/8th first. The panel should now be easily fitted to the baseboard, using wing nuts to attach it. HISTORY OF THE HALLIDAY FAMILY researched by Rhys Davies. Simon Halliday was a scion of the Scottish Halliday family, a line who claimed descent from the last Laird of Corehead and which had held great favour with King James VI. A naval surgeon and banker, Simon amassed a considerable fortune during the Napoleonic Wars. When he died in Scotland in 1829, he left his assets

Locomotives and coaches had several coats of varnish, which darkened the base colour a little from the outset (particularly the ivory white on L&B coaches). HOW TO MAKE REALISTIC MODEL HILLS AND VALLEYS This is pre-cut to the approximate lengths required, quickly dumped in water and laid on. We overlap the strips by 1/2". Three layers are added at 90 degrees to the previous layer. One has to work quickly and with the best will in the work, the job is a tad messy. We always lay down a plastic sheet before starting.
