CLEAN THE BAY DAY
Clean the Bay Day has been a staple for Virginia's Chesapeake Bay community since its inception more than 30 years ago. Even though we won't be gathering together as we have done in the past, we hope that our platform for 2021 will allow us to regain that sense of unity we have felt every year on the first Saturday in June. OUR COMMITMENT TO DIVERSITY, EQUITY, INCLUSION, AND Just as biodiversity is the key to a thriving ecosystem, human diversity is the key to saving the Bay. Success depends on people from widely diverse backgrounds, cultures, ethnicities, identities, and races taking collective action. Clean water, clean air, and a safe environment are rights we all share. BROCK ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER Welcome to One of the World's Greenest Buildings. The Brock Environmental Center, located at Pleasure House Point in Virginia Beach, Virginia, is an innovative example of environmentally sensitive and smart building—among the first in the nation to embrace energy and water independence—and advances CBF's efforts to defend one of the nation's most valuable and threatened natural resources KEYSTONE TEN MILLION TREES PARTNERSHIP The Keystone 10 Million Trees Partnership is a collaborative effort of national, regional, state, and local agencies, conservation organizations, outdoors enthusiasts, businesses, and citizens committed to improving Pennsylvania's communities, economy, andecology.
CLAGETT FARM'S COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA Our vegetables are for sale to the public through our community supported agriculture (CSA) program. The health and safety of our visitors, volunteers, supporters, and staff are our top priorities, and we are closely monitoring the COVID-19 (coronavirus) situation. Clagett Farm is currently open to visitors by appointment only. CBF'S INNOVATIVE SOLAR LIVESTOCK WATERING STATION CBF's solar-powered livestock watering system uses the sun’s energy to pump water from any nearby creek or pond to tanks that can be used to replenish watering troughs. It's an affordable, portable, off-the-grid solution for grazing cattle in fields that don’t have a permanent watering system. This is a real game changer for a lot offarmers.

A PLACE TO GROW
"I'm not the one growing the zucchinis" says CBF Intern Katie Claggett, quick to deflect credit. Working with CBF Maryland Outreach Manager David Tana, Claggett spent most of last year helping to promote farmers from the Buy Fresh Buy Local Chesapeake program.. One farm that Katie visited with CBF Baltimore Program Manager Carmera Thomas-Wilhite left an indelible impression. 2020 STATE OF THE BAY REPORT Finishing the Job. Experts agree the science-based Chesapeake Clean Water Blueprint may be our last chance to save the Bay. It's working. But as this year's State of the Bay shows us, the Bay that 18 million of us call home is still a system dangerously out of balance. The road to restoration is steep, and the clock is ticking. The environmental benefits of solar facilities, however, depend greatly on how they are designed, located, and developed. Clearing forests, wetlands, or prime farmland for solar farms can degrade wildlife habitat and diminish the land’s ability to naturally filter and clean water, leading to more pollution in rivers and streams. On the other hand, solar facilities that make use of degraded or ARE THERE SHARKS IN THE CHESAPEAKE BAY? According to the Chesapeake Bay Program, there are at least 12 species of sharks found in the Bay. While some are quite abundant, others are very rare. The five most common sharks in the Bay include the sandbar shark, bull shark, sand tiger shark, smooth dogfish, and spineydogfish.
