10 WAYS TO PRACTICE SELF-CARE WITH KIDS. 10 Ways We Practice Self-Care Together: 1. We are the sum of how we spend our time. This is a big one for me as I’ve found it to be repeatedly true for myself. The seemingly small choices we make when added up affect our bodies tremendously. I value you. by Carla. The older I get the accomplishment I’m most proud of is my long-term friendships. My story about weight loss and finding my healthy living path is an uncomplicated one. I shed 35 pounds nineteen years ago and never looked back. Never regained. Never got off-track. With hindsight when I’ve been squeezed some not so pretty stuff has oozed out. We may have found humor in bowling of fruit –but, as Dyer would say, it’s orange juice just the same. Dyer ended his discourse with this thought: When someone puts the pressure on you and out of you comes anything other than love, it’s because that’s what TRICEP DIPS IN A WHEELCHAIR. And I’m grateful she did. There, in my fave fave Oakland gym, was a man strapped into his wheelchair and working out. He did pullups wheelchair and all. Hoisting himself entirely off the ground. Sure she’s 12 and possesses all the snark & entitled moments of any tween, yet at the end of the day she’s appreciative for all she has. 3 REASONS WHY IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OFFEND ME I love this post, and I’m going to print it and put in somewhere I can see it every day! Years ago I used to be like you, but spending 10 years at a job where co-workers are snarky and backstabbing, and the last year with a new boss who does her best to make me feel like a complete zero, I’ve sadly become one of those fragile people you describe, with severely diminished self-confidence. Grieving the living. by Carla. After forty nine years on the planet I've learned a lot. I've learned to embrace my fears. I've learned about forgiveness and resilience. I've learned the importance of growth even when I'd prefer stagnation. I'd thought I'd learned acceptance around loss of relationships and how to rebound. VIDEOS - CARLA BIRNBERG Pin It on Pinterest. My story about weight loss and finding my healthy living path is an uncomplicated one. I shed 35 pounds nineteen years ago and never looked back. Never regained. Never got off-track. Maintained even when Master’s degree, marriage and motherhood conspired to derail me. The more challenging piece to explain (and the question I’m mostfrequently

Meet MizFit/Contact. I’ve been a professional blogger since 2001. In 2007 I launched MizFitOnline in an effort to share health and fitness knowledge with those who might not have access to one-on-one training. As a result of my online personality I gained attention of publications like Women’s Day, Fast Company, Wall Street JournalEXERCISE ARCHIVES
BOTH of ours. When The Child was tiny and more of a Tornado we moved our bods a lot together. We did Mommy & me everything: yoga, hopscotch, belly dancing, regular dancing. You name it--we tried it. And then she grew up a bit and we moved a LOT together: kickball, hula TARGET HEART RATE TRAINING ZONES Healthy Heart Zone (warm-up) — 50-60% of your maximum heart rate. FIVE STEP APPROACH TO MANIFESTATION JOURNALING The Child and I have shared a gratitude practice since she was tiny.. It began simply (prayers before bed) and, over time, has grown more complex. It wouldn’t be overstating to say I’m proud of how grateful she is.. Sure she’s 12 and possesses all the snark & entitled moments of any tween, yet at the end of the day she’s appreciative for all she has. 3 REASONS WHY IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO OFFEND ME We humans do not exist in a vacuum. Sometimes we ( the royal) are aware of other people’s life experiences. More often, and most especially when we don’t understand ‘reactions,’ we are not. It’s pretty impossible to offend me because I know reactions/actions are triggered by something much *deeper* than a brief moment in time. WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO LET YOUR FREAK FLAG FLY? that doesnt sound snarky at all and is a really valid point (Id make the dizclaimer here that I tangeted off and talking all about the evolution of my FF but that the post was way too long—-except the post is STILL way too long :)). HOW CAN WE BALANCE WORK FAMILY AND FITNESS? Once upon a time, I was a youngster. I was footloose and fancy free. (translation: I was dating my now-husband, we had no dependents (canine or otherwise) & we could travel at a moments notice.)It was around this time we both became more interested in bodybuilding (I had yet to compete.. that zaniness came later.) and we’d frequently road trip to watch the Pros compete.* Home

MAKING TIME FOR ME.
by Carla
Ahhhh People. Life has been hectic around here lately. I've mothered. I've panicked about money and retirement and will I be alone forever?! I've hung with some fave people and refilled my connection tank. I've laughed until I cried. I've created a biz I never ever saw coming. I chatted with one of my board members (she may not know she's on my 'board of ... Continue Reading PRIORITIZING PLEASURE.by Carla
Recently Ive thought a lot about self-care and pleasure. Self-care for me used to mean pedicures, massages and weekends with friends. Self-care was defined as 'things which made me feel nurtured' and which relaxed me. Not all of these activities co$t money (an afternoon spent reading was as decadent as a fancy night out), yet they had one thing in common. They weren't productive. ... Continue ReadingYOU DO YOU.

WHEN TRUST IS BROKEN.by Carla
This is 12. I love 12. Recently, I lied to the almost 13-year-old. It wasn’t a white lie. It was one of those full-on, bearing absolutely no resemblance to the truth fabrications. It happened in a flash. In a moment where I gave fleeting thought to truth-telling and instead chose to plunge ahead and commit a falsification. Spoiler alert: As with all lying liars who lie I was found ... Continue ReadingIM NOT SPRINTING.

Drake sings it. I preach it. There are myriad reasons a certain human may or may not succeed in her new side-hustle (foreshadowing!), but one thing is certain: All great things take time. I won't dash. I won't rush. I won't hurl my *anything* full speed ahead. What will I do? Thanks for asking. Small daily steps. Yep. It's still how I live every facet of my ... It's stunning to me how rapidly my child has grown from this: into this: As a mother I’ve failed her in myriad ways. Accidentally. Ways which should have been within my control, yet were not. Choices which seemed to be for the best and, in hindsight, may not have been. Upon reflection, which I did last week, I can see my actions came from places of good intent. This ... I rock the boundaries like a motherfucker. I draw them in Sharpie leaving myself ample space to ooze off the paper and not spark stress. Still, even though parameter-setting verges on reflexive for me, it's hard. It takes courage, feels vulnerable and, at times, sparks a sense of fear like no other. Recently I drew boundaries with a loved one which felt excruciatingly challenging. I ... Continue Reading* 1
