WINCHESTER MODEL 1897 “C” Winchester Model 1897 “C”. While marketed, and widely recognized as an entirely new firearm, the Winchester 1897 is actually an evolution of the previous Model 1893, albeit a strong one. Essentially, the slide action shotgun was new technology and required the usual problem solving period of rapid competition and innovation. SMALL ARMS OF WWI PRIMER 137: RUSSIAN BERDAN II Small Arms of WWI Primer 137: Russian Berdan II – C&Rsenal. March15, 2021.
WINCHESTER MODEL 1897 “E” Winchester Model 1897 “E”. The “E” series is the final evolution of the Winchester 1897, at least as far as internals go. This model saw slightly wider grooves on the receiver ring, which it’s doubtful anyone noticed. What does stand out is that the screws for the cartridge stops, set on either side of the receiver, have beenreplaced
BURGESS REPEATING SHOTGUN Burgess Repeating Shotgun. Andrew Burgess is an often under appreciated firearms inventor with hundreds of patents to his name. Perhaps best known for the Colt-Burgess rifle, which was central to the brief Colt-Winchester Cold War, he also had a line of lever actions sold under Eli Whitney’s arms company. In 1893, Burgesswould start his own

UNION FIRE ARMS MODEL 24 “A” While Sears & Roebuck had been willing to sell just about any of the popular repeating shotguns available at the turn of the century, they did have a reputation for affordability to uphold. BANNERMAN MODEL 1890 Francis Bannerman and his famous Catalog were a retail powerhouse at the turn of the century. Many shooters will recognize the name from his vast stores of discounted military surplus equipment and firearms. BANNERMAN MODEL 1896 In attempting to police the patent for the 1890, Spencer went toe-to-toe with Winchester over their Model 1893 slide action shotgun. While Bannerman argued his patent precluded Winchester from producing a pump gun, he was defeated in court. YOUNG REPEATING SHOTGUN Charles Young, born 1866, had grown up prepared take over his father’s agricultural tool business. He had also discovered a talentfor clay shooting.
