OUR HISTORY
In 1973, a group of parents in the Canandaigua community began searching for an alternative educational program – one that would meet their goals of child-centered learning, while maintaining high academic standards. The group chose the Montessori method and in September 1973 an extension of the Perinton Montessori School opened with a Directress brought DONATE – CANANDAIGUA MONTESSORI SCHOOL SEE THE IMPACT OF YOUR DONATION EACH DAY AT OUR SCHOOL For questions or concerns about your donation, contact Tracey Knopf, Manager of Donor Relations, or call her at 585-393-0126. WELCOME!
We are very proud of our school and would love to share our love of learning with your child. Our school provides a rich and supportive community for children’s growth and development as students. Through the educational methods developed by Dr. Maria Montessori, Canandaigua Montessori School seeks to encourage the acquisition of skills and attitudes that will form the basis of a love and desire for life-long learning and discovery. In addition, we hope to guide children to become independent, self-fulfilled, responsible individuals, and members of their communities. -------------------------*

Established in 1973, our non-profit organization is devoted to promoting standards of excellence in Montessori education. With five staff members, Canandaigua Montessori School now serves a total of 50 children, ages 18 months through 6 years of age. We currently offer toddler, primary, and kindergarten programs. Our curriculum covers a variety of subjects including math, science, literature, the arts, history, social issues, and the study of technology. For the beginning years of my education, I attended a private school: the Canandaigua Montessori school. This experience with the hands-on study style, (mostly) child-lead-learning, and individual tutelage, combined with absolutely incredible teachers, changed my life and the way I see education. The Montessori school to which I went was far different than a regular public schoolhouse. We truly learned and internalize concepts we taught ourselves through play and structured curricula. I loved school; every day was literally a new adventure. My peers and I actually developed an appreciation for education! Of course, Montessori wouldn’t be the amazing experience it is without the teachers, Mrs. Robinson in particular. These educators provided a safe place in which to learn and ask questions. In addition, they helped inculcate values and skills we, as the students, would find useful later in life. In short, the Canandaigua Montessori establishment changed my life fundamentally for the better. Please consider attending this place of education; you won’t bedisappointed.
FORMER STUDENT
When the time came to register our daughter for preschool, it was an easy decision. As a 1977 graduate of the Canandaigua Montessori School, my husband and I knew that we wanted Alison to have a strong academic start and be immersed in an environment that cultivates enthusiasm for life long learning. CMS has exceeded our expectations in every aspect of our child’s development. Alison has thrived here because of nurturing teachers and her joy of learning thrills us. What an amazing start to her life journey! Alison joins a long legacy of proud Prull graduates! Prull Family Graduates: Tamara A. Prull, M.D. – 1977 Heather Prull Ross – 1979 David W.
