Different navigation authorities have different licences and fees, you need to contact each one separately, depending on where you want to use your boat: The Canal & River Trust runs 96 canals and navigable rivers in England and Wales. The Environment Agency (EA) runs the River Thames, the River Medway, and rivers in East Anglia. BEGINNER’S GUIDE: CANAL FISHING Our waterways are full of fish, about 30 species, even some rare and protected ones.And we’re not talking about little minnows here, fish like bream, carp and pike can be huge. They’re all part of the natural ecology of the waterways and our team of fisheries experts make sure the fish stay happy and healthy.. If you’re new to fishing you’re most likely to catch: BRADFORD-ON-AVON WHARF The wharf at Bradford-on-Avon Wharf was the busiest on the Kennet & Avon Canal during the 1850s. Today, it's a great place to spot historic canal features. Bradford on Avon is an architectural treasure chest, with gems including the magnificent 14th century BODDINGTON RESERVOIR Boddington is one of the Midlands' top big-weight match venues. If you want to fish on a stretch of water that we lease to an angling club, you will need a permit directly from the club. STOKE LOCK - RIVER TRENT The dredging plant will be taken from Ratcliffe Lock to Stoke Lock to clear sediments from the lock tail there. LONG TERM BOAT MOORINGS You'll need one of these moorings for your boat if you're not continuously cruising. Most are provided by private companies or boat clubs, either in off-line marinas or on-line, along the canal or river bank opposite the towpath. Contracts can vary in length from three months to three years, so there's plenty of choice. Be prepared toshop around.

BRIDGWATER & TAUNTON CANAL Please be advised that we have blue green algae (BGA) at Bridgwater Docks. The advice is therefore to avoid all contact with the algal scum and with water discoloured bright green. BAR LANE SWING BRIDGE Skippers of all craft are advised to slow down and approach the bridge with caution due to a quad bike being dumped in to the canal and partially blocking the navigation. WE'VE LAUNCHED OUR FIRST PHOTOGRAPHER-IN-RESIDENCE Stunning photographs taken by Jonathan Goldberg, our first photographer-in-residence, are being showcased in a special summer exhibition at our National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port..
