Stephen Brooks was born 21 July 1951 in Cambridge, UK. As an early practicing British psychotherapist and hypnotherapist he was the first to introduce Ericksonian Hypnosis to Europe in 1979. Throughout his career he has pioneered the use of Ericksonian Hypnotherapy based on Buddhist principles in the medical profession with courses in over 20 WHO CAN AND CAN’T PRACTICE HYPNOTHERAPY? For example within the USA each state can have its own criteria. In 1997 the South African government introduced an amendment to their Health Professions Act, which stated that “hypnosis and hypnotherapy” could only be offered by a licensed psychologist or mental health practitioner, effectively making the practice of hypnotherapy illegal AGE REGRESSION
Age Regression. Age regression is the reliving of an early life experience with no conscious awareness of any future realities beyond the time frame being experienced and some Clients are able to experience a total reliving of an early life experience. This involves a complete dissociation from any other references to adult life. WHY INDIRECT HYPNOSIS? With direct hypnosis you impose something onto the person. You tell them what to think, what to visualise, and what suggestions to follow. This leaves and very little room for independent creativity and the evocation of unconscious potential on the part of the client. And lastly, the indirect hypnotic approach is so gentle and respectful that
HYPNOTHERAPY SKILLS AND TIPS An abreaction should be carried through to the end. In therapy, therapists work with the raw materials. Emotion is the rawest material a therapist can work with. An abreaction offers the therapist raw materials. If an abreaction starts to occur spontaneously the therapist should encourage it to develop as long as he is confident to handle it.
IDEO-MOTOR SIGNALLING: HYPNOSIS TECHNIQUE Ideo-motor signalling: hypnosis technique. In Ericksonian hypnotherapy, ideo-motor signalling is the name given to a technique whereby a movement of the Client’s finger is used to signal an unconscious communication – typically a yes or no response. I often use ideo-motor signalling with my clients in therapy, just as Milton Erickson did.
