We are very happy to announce that our South Recycling Center is now open at 5200 E. Red Bridge Rd., Kansas City, MO 64137. We had to close the 3 Trails Recycling Center on Bannister Rd. for relocation on August 20th due to the Cerner Development in the old Bannister Mall area. TREES FOR LENEXA

In partnership with the City of Lenexa and the Kansas Forest Service, Heartland Tree Alliance volunteers are planting FREE trees in your neighborhood! Trees will be planted along the street right-of-way, which is typically 10-15 feet from the street. There is no cost to you – except for water! We will provide the tree, mulch, Continued UPDATE: RIGID PLASTICS PROGRAM ENDING KCMO’s Community Recycling Center located at 4707 Deramus Avenue now accepts RIGID PLASTICS for recycling. Make sure that buckets, tubs and jugs are empty; playsets and shelving are disassembled and metal components are removed from items (don’t worry about small screws). One final note, no pieces larger than 3’ by 5’ can be accepted.

Bridging The Gap (BTG) works to make the Kansas City region sustainable by "connecting environment, economy and community," and is the premier organization in the area providing environmental education and volunteer action through more than 1,800 volunteers annually. TREES

Heartland Tree Alliance recognizes the importance of the trees along our streets, in our parks and around our homes, businesses and public buildings. Heartland Tree Alliance trains advocates throughout the metro about the critically important benefits created by our urban trees. We also organize events to engage and educate the community.

Kansas City WildLands is a coalition of resource professionals, private conservation organizations and conservation minded citizens established to restore and manage the remnants of Kansas City’s

original landscape.

RECYCLING IN KC

Bridging The Gap currently manages three of KCMO’s recycling centers. The money received from the materials is paid to the City of Kansas City, Missouri, which helps to cover the operating costs of the Centers. During our most recent fiscal year, 90,136 patrons visited our recycling centers!

LITTER

Our mission is to involve citizens, businesses and government in creating a cleaner and more beautiful Kansas City region. Bridging The Gap hosts both neighborhood and stream clean-ups.

MONARCHS

Through the spring of 2017, Bridging The Gap will plant 175 3x5 ft monarch butterfly gardens on both public and private homeowner lands. Kansas City is critical geography for the monarch migration, which ranges from Mexico to Minnesota.

NATIVE PLANTS

Providing a source of plants native to this area is integral to the success of creating native habitat in our cities. ​Through this program, Bridging The Gap supports the growth of the native plant market in the Greater Kansas City region.

WATER

Fresh water is a scarce resource, only one percent of the water on Earth is usable. A recent government survey showed at least 36 states are anticipating local, regional, or statewide water shortages by 2013. Bridging The Gap offers many ways to help conserve water, and educate the public on ways to get involved.

'STAY AT HOME' ORDER IN EFFECT THROUGH FRIDAY, APRIL 24 Mayor Quinton Lucas on Saturday issued a “Stay at Home” Order, requiring Kansas Citians to stay at home except for “essential activities” as the community continues working to slow the spread of COVID-19. Grocery stores, pharmacies, gas stations, and healthcare facilities will remain open. Bridging The Gap’s staff will continue to operate KCMO’s drop off recycling centers, manage green infrastructure, and plant trees, as they are deemed essential activities. While not on duty at their specified work sites, our team is working from home and can be reached by phone at 816-561-1087 or through the contact form on this website. We encourage everyone to respect the Stay at Home order and find safe ways to continue to engage and support your local businesses, community, and environment during this challenging time. Shifts available include: Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday from 10:30 AM – 2 PM. Saturday shifts are 9:30 AM – 1:30 PM or 1 – 5 PM. Min age: 8 with parent. Volunteer alone at 14 yrs. Yes!
