The Brandywine River Museum of Art is a program of The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art BIRMINGHAM HILL PRESERVE Birmingham Hill Preserve The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art’s Birmingham Hill Preserve was the site of the first and second defensive lines of the Continental Army during the Battle of Brandywine on September 11, 1777. It is hallowed ground where Americans fought and died to establish our liberties and a new nation. Together with adjoining and nearby lands, it is the site of the 2021 RADNOR HUNT RACES “PARTY POD” PACKAGES Tickets are sold out.Please note: In keeping with state regulations and public health guidelines, this year’s event will have a limited attendance capacity and will be focused on the fundamentals of race day: world-class equine athleticism enjoyed by intimate gatherings of friends and family. This project will conceptualize three new Heritage Centers and a network of smaller-scale interpretive sites, to help continue efforts to tell the PENGUIN COURT & THOMAS ROAD FARM Penguin Court and Thomas Road Farm comprise a stunning preserve of 1,089 acres of forests, meadows and open space; a spring-fed reservoir and pond; a 7,000 square-foot conservatory and a 3,700 square-foot greenhouse in Westmoreland County, PA. The property is owned by the Brandywine Conservancy, which is actively engaged in preserving the land and utilizing its resources for community benefit. THE INVASIVE MANTIS SPECIES The praying mantis is a master of deception with a seemingly benign appearance. Despite its tranquil praying pose, this elusive creature is actually quite the predator of the insect world. Most people are able to identify a praying mantis, but many are unaware there are both native and invasive species of mantises in our area. Buildups are more prevalent after rainfall, often covering a large expanse ofwater.

We then POISON IVY VS. LOOK-ALIKE SPECIES Chances are most nature goers will experience the dreaded poison ivy rash at least once in their lifetime. Poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans) is a native plant that is valued by wildlife—humans are one of the few species vulnerable to its “poison.” The easiest way to avoid the painfully itchy reaction is to steer clear of the plant. Funded by our friends at PECO, the Brandywine Conservancy and Museum of Art is excited to offer the Brandywine Community Pass membership program for neighboring public and university libraries, and community organizations. This program allows access to the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art’s many special exhibitions, walking trails and educational programs. BRANDYWINE CREEK GREENWAY The Brandywine Creek Greenway is a regional planning initiative of the Brandywine Conservancy. It involves 27 municipal partners in Chester and Delaware counties in Pennsylvania, and recently expanded to include New Castle County and the City of Wilmington in Delaware. BRANDYWINE RIVER MUSEUM OF ART TO REOPEN ON JUNE 20, 2021 Brandywine River Museum of Art entrance. Chadds Ford, PA, June 7, 2021— The Brandywine River Museum of Art will reopen to the public on Sunday, June 20, 2021, with a new special exhibition, Ralston Crawford: Air & Space & War.During its temporary closure, the Museum underwent several facility renovations to the second and third floors, including a complete refurbishment of the LAND CONSERVATION & CONSERVATION EASEMENTS Land conservation begins with conversation.A conservation easement is a legal agreement between a landowner and a conservation organization or government that protects open space, natural and water resources, agricultural lands and historic sites in perpetuity.We work with landowners, farmers, and municipal open space programs to learn their goals for preserving their property. We then THE WATERLOO MILLS PRESERVE Fifteen miles due west of center city Philadelphia, between Valley Forge National Park and Ridley Creek State Park, is a unique piece of open land. On 170 spectacular acres, one can find an 18th century village, mill race remnants, wildflower meadows, fertile marshes, mature woods and over a mile of meandering creek. Due to the vision and generosity of the late Mr. and Mrs. BRANDYWINE BATTLEFIELD HERITAGE INTERPRETATION PLAN Westtown Township, Chester County. The project will be completed in 2021 and will hep advance the implementation of Chester County Planning Commission’s Brandywine Battlefield Preservation Plan and associated Landscapes Plans. POISON IVY VS. LOOK-ALIKE SPECIES Chances are most nature goers will experience the dreaded poison ivy rash at least once in their lifetime. Poison ivy (Toxicodendron radicans) is a native plant that is valued by wildlife—humans are one of the few species vulnerable to its “poison.” The easiest way to avoid the painfully itchy reaction is to steer clear of the plant. 1967
The Brandywine Conservancy was founded by a group of local residents who, appreciating the need for rapid action, purchased land in Chadds Ford to protect the area from industrial development.Close Lightbox

The Conservancy opened the Brandywine River Museum of Art. Part of the Conservancy's first preservation effort was renovating Hoffman's Mill, a former gristmill built in 1864, which became the home of the Museumof Art.

1980's
Through the leadership of the Brandywine Conservancy, the Laurels Preserve is established when a limited partnership purchased the 5,367-acre Buck & Doe Run Valley Farms property from the Texas-based King Ranch cattle operation. The Brandywine River Museum of Art opens the N.C. Wyeth House & Studio to the public. The Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art acquired the house and studio as a gift from N.C. Wyeth's 5 children, in 1982.Englarge Image

Waterloo Mills Preserve is established when Mr. and Mrs. John C. Haas donate 170 spectacular acres to the Brandywine Conservancy. On the Waterloo Mills Preserve, one can find an 18th-century village, mill race remnants, wildflower meadows, fertile marshes, mature woods and over a mile of meandering creek.Close Lightbox

The Brandywine River Museum of Art opens the Kuerner Farm to the public. The farm was originally acquired by Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art in 1999 due in large part to the philanthropic spirit of Karl Kuerner, Jr., and his family.Englarge Image

The Brandywine River Museum of Art opens Andrew Wyeth’s Studio to the public. The studio was given to the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art by the artist's wife Betsy James Wyeth, in 2010 and underwent careful restoration to preserve its appearance when it was used by the late artist.Englarge Image
