WAR-TIME LOG OF THE U.S.S. TATE (AKA-70) Bangor Public Library Bangor Community: Digital Commons@bpl World War Regimental Histories World War Collections 1946 War-Time log of the U.S.S. Tate (AKA-70) "THE TRAIL OF 254 THRU BLOOD & FIRE" BY HARRIS PEEL AND This is the story of one regiment; or rather, it is the story of the men of one regiment. Undoubtedly, the world took little note of the 254th Infantry. To them we were merely a number, a small unit which lost itself in a multitude of small units, a forgotten integer in headlines which screamed only of corps and armies and theaters of war. But to those of us who fought in the regiment, it was "THE 3RD CAVALRY RECONNAISSANCE SQUADRON (MECZ.) IN WORLD "Fighting across 18 major rivers and scores of smaller streams you have accomplished some of the longest sustained marches in the history of warfare. You have liberated or conquered more than 31,000 square miles of territory, including 600 cities and towns and 4,000 inhabited places. You have captured 540,000 enemy soldiers and killed or wounded at least 89,000 others. "SURF AND SAND, THE SAGA OF THE 533D ENGINEER BOAT AND Foreword In these pages will be found the story of our own 533d in the greatest of all the wars of the world. It is a story of toil and hardship and danger mixed with happy interludes and comradeships made the dearer thereby, a story of great deeds in the face of great obstacles, of reverses and disappointments but of pride and glory in the end. This book is not written to impress others with "THE STORY OF THE 73RD: THE UNOFFICIAL HISTORY OF THE 73RD From the Introduction Before leaving Saipan a number of men with the 73rd Wing and its units expressed a hope that some sort of a history of our organization would be published and made available to all Wing personnel. The Wing historical officer seemed the logical person to do this since he had handled the official history of the Wing which is now on file in Washington. "COMBAT HISTORY OF THE 119TH INFANTRY REGIMENT" BY UNITED This is a history of the 119th Infantry Regiment from June 13, 1944, when it landed on the coast of France, to its actions around the Elbe River, and the formal collapse of Germany on May 8, 1945. Each man who fought in the Regiment had his personal memories. It's a story of men who served their country and served it well. Men who underwent the toughest, most rigorous, most backbreaking training that the Army could hand out. And men who, after two hard years of this training, went across to the field of battle in Europe, met the enemy, and defeated him at his own game -- war. "HISTORY OF THE 376TH INFANTRY REGIMENT BETWEEN THE YEARS From the Introduction, written by Colonel Harold B. McClune: "The design of this book's compilers is to present a panoramic view of the 376th Infantry from its birth in September 1921 to the capitulation of the Japanese Empire in August 1945; a panorama of battle experiences that have demonstrated our superiority over the enemy that confronted us, and proved the mettle of our civilian "ALBUM: 359TH INFANTRY From A Spearhead Regiment (the book's introduction): "When the blood, sweat, and dirt of war become memories, who will remember the " little things" that GI Joe did, to make war just "a memory"? We will, of course. The 90th Division through its battles and conquests will go down in the annals of history as one of the finest and bravest Division of World War II. "THE STORY OF THE 310TH INFANTRY REGIMENT, 78TH INFANTRY The 310th Infantry Regiment has fought in more than one war. This history is primarily an account of the present 310th Infantry Regiment in World War II, but there is a story to tell of an earlier 310th Regiment which carried the same Regimental Colors into battle againstthe German enemy in

"HISTORY OF THE 103RD INFANTRY" BY FRANK HUME In the early part of December, 1918, the Division Commander, Major General Hale, at a conference at Montigny-le-Roi, expressed his desire that the several organizations of the division take steps to properly record their history. An order on this matter soon followed, and it is in compliance with this order that the following history or story of the 103rd Infantry has been written.
