The medieval period is an interesting one from a horticultural point of view as the range of plants is quite different from today, although the variety of plants is more extensive than might beexpected.

Bolton Castle is one of the country’s best preserved medieval castles; originally built as one of the finest and most luxurious homes in the land, the castle bears the scars of over 600 years of fascinating history. The castle is still in the private ownership of Lord Bolton, the direct descendant of the castle’s original owner Sir Richard le Scrope. If you are travelling to Bolton Castle via the Wensleydale Railway, WWW.WENSLEYDALERAIL.COM the line ends approx. one mile from the Castle at Redmire and we are offering 20% OFF TICKET PRICE for their passengers.OPENING TIMES

DOGS:
DOGS MUST NOT BE LEFT UNATTENDED IN HOT CARS. Please note dogs are not allowed in the Castle and due to the falconry experience we cannot allow dogs in the gardens as they can frightenthe birds.
If you are intending to visit the Castle and Gardens we strongly recommend that you do not bring dogs, unless they can be appropriately looked after during your time here, for their own safety and comfort. We are delighted to recommend the services of professional dog walker and pet sitter, Nicole Walker, who charges £8/hour and can be contacted at waggydales@outlook.com or mobile number 07493051202. Please confirm her availability and book well in advance. Dogs are welcome in the car parking field and there are numerous footpaths in the local area which are ideal for dog walking. Please keep dogs on the footpaths, under close control and always on leadsaround livestock.
You are welcome to fill water bowls using the tap adjacent to the public conveniences.ACCESS:
