FIBER CLUB - BLUECITY LAB Together with her partners, BlueCity Lab organizes four online meetups about four fiber rich organisms, called Fiber Club. In these meetups, we co-create the valorization pyramid for this organism with the experts in and around the Netherlands in this field. A TOUR OF THE BLUEROOF TESTING FACILITY AT THE SEWAGE In 2017, Bas van der Leeden and Jelle Scharff won the first-ever Circular Challenge with BlueRoof: a sustainable substrate for green roofs, made out of sewage waste.Now, two years later, Bas is taking us on a press tour of their testing grounds at the wastewater treatment plant Kralingseveer in Capelle aan de IJssel, where they are conducting tests before launching their product.

De Circular Challenge combineert sustainable business modeling met design, op basis van concrete reststromen van deelnemende organisaties.Resultaat: new circular business met economisch interessante innovaties die per direct bijdragen aan de versnelling van de circulaire economie. RECAP FIBER CLUB: HEMP, THE GREEN GOLD On March the 4th, BlueCity Lab hosted it’s first (online) Fiber Club meetup about hemp. Hosts Arie Hooimeijerand Nienke Binnendijk were thrilled to e-meet many of you and hope we can use the established ideas and connections to further accelerate the hemp economy. “WE EMPOWER LOCAL COMMUNITIES TO BENEFIT FROM LOCAL Currently, the duo is still running tests on the UniBrick, but they have great belief that everything will work out as planned. “Within two years we hope to have at least one working house up and running,” Rushabh says, “maybe even two or three in different

places.”

Hier werkt een hechte community van ondernemende pioniers uit verschillende disciplines aan het ontwikkelen van prototypes, en wordt geëxperimenteerd met businesscases die invulling geven aan de circulaire economie. De voltooiing van het laboratorium, dat in 2017 al opende met een makerspace, is een mijlpaal in de jonge geschiedenis - én een belangrijke voorwaarde voor de toekomst - van BlueCity.

Op vrijdag 27 november 2020 opent BlueCity Lab haar deuren voor biotechnologen, ontwerpers en innovatieve bedrijven. Op deze Rotterdamse maakplek worden de materialen en producten van de toekomst ontwikkeld, denk aan leer van planten, zelfhelend beton van bacteriën of zelfs een urn van schimmels. De Rotterdamse wethouder Duurzaamheid, Arno Bonte, opent deze plek feestelijk online.
