The Black Creek collection began in 1954 with a donation from Mr. and Mrs. Percy Snider of 70 pioneer tools dating from the early to mid-19th century. At the Black Creek Pioneer Village Weaver’s Shop, the weaver uses a large wooden machine called a loom to make blankets, rugs, and table runners.. With this easy craft you can make your own loom from a piece of cardboard, and weave a bookmark with items fromaround your house!

The Fisherville Church was Presbyterian until 1925, when the congregation voted to join the United Church of Canada. The church was moved in one piece to Black Creek Pioneer Village in 1960, and restored for opening in 1962. It remains to this day a popular location for weddings. DICKSON'S HILL SCHOOL Dates From: 1861Original Location: Markham, Ontario (Concession 7) Built in 1861, this school (S.S.#17 for Markham) is a fine example of the one-room schoolhouse typical of the period. It was built with hand-made local brick, for a total cost of $1,078.79. The school has large windows on both sides allowing for improved light andcross-ventilation.

EXPLORING THE VILLAGE HERB GARDEN Chives, sage, lavender, sweet basil, lemon balm, thyme, savory, and peppermint — these were the herbs most often found outside the kitchen door of homes in Ontario. Hence the term “door-yard” gardens! Washrooms are located in the Visitors’ Centre and also outside in the village. Plan to arrive approximately 10-15 minutes before your program is scheduled to begin. Be ready for adventure! DIY Heritage Trade Workshops at Black Creek Pioneer Village are offered on a drop-in basis throughout the season. The Workshop is located in the Dominion Carriageworks building, which was built in the 1860s in Sebringville Ontario.
