Money that was intended for some specific thing ends up somewhere else (corruption). Loans can be spent on items other than what the borrower told their lender they would use it for (fraud). Grants can be used to pay for things the grant was not intended for (misuse, corruption, orfraud).

A gentle introduction to bitcoin mining. September 21, 2015. November 24, 2016 ~ antonylewis2015. ~ 7 Comments. Recently over dinner, I was asked to explain bitcoin mining, and I struggled as it is entangled with a number of other concepts. Here’s my attempt at breaking it down into bite-sized pieces. A GENTLE INTRODUCTION TO BITCOIN MINING The process is: Make a payment (a bitcoin transaction) Wait for it to be mined in a block (average 10 mins) Wait for more blocks to be mined on top (average 10 mins per block) 1. Make a payment. When you make a bitcoin payment, the transaction message is sent to the network and passed around all the network participants (called ’nodes THE SWEET SPOT FOR PROGRAMMABLE MONEY The three elements that stood out to me were: It’s money on a blockchain. It’s initially aimed at businesses. It’s issued by a central bank. 1. It’s on a blockchain. This is the most important bit. Issuing money that is defined by smart contracts paves the way for programmability. No longer is the money an inert number sitting ina

This allows central banks to transmit deep negative interest rates directly to the pockets of households.
