EARLY CHILDHOOD MATTERS ARCHIVES Early Childhood Matters 2017. This latest edition of the Bernard van Leer Foundation’s journal showcases advances in early childhood development, bringing new ideas from around the world and exploring the challenges of scaling up. Read more. INDIA - BERNARD VAN LEER FOUNDATION The Bernard van Leer Foundation’s Urban95 programme evolved from our recent work in India. The country has become a global focus for urban policy, due to its goal of building 100 “smart cities” and the expected high rate of urbanisation in the coming years: still less than a third of the country’s 1.25 billion population lives in cities, but the proportion is projected to reach half by “MAGIC MOMENTS” CAMPAIGN LAUNCHED IN ISRAEL FOR ARABIC A campaign with the same name was launched in Hebrew last year, creating a high demand for similar content for the Arabic-speaking population. However ‘’Magic Moments’’ is not a transcription of the Hebrew project – it is an original production tailored specifically for the Arab population, featuring Arab experts andfamilies.
TOOLKIT - FOR MEASURING URBAN EXPERIENCES OF YOUNG People moving count, stationary activity mapping, intercept surveys and sensory mapping are among the tools that can be used to gather data on young children and caregivers in cities. They are explained in practical detail in this publication, a collaboration between the Bernard van Leer Foundation and Gehl. The tools are adapted from Gehl’s Public Space Public Life survey for the FoundationRECIFE, BRAZIL

Our city-wide, inter-agency partnership with Recife has a particular focus on exploring how Urban95 tools – such as intersectoral data management, and the “children’s priority zone” concept of mobility and public space interventions – can reduce violence and inequality.
