Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) was established by the Government of India in March, 2002 under the provisions of the EC Act. Ministry of Power launched the Star rating of commercial buildings scheme in India in 2009. Star Rating Program for buildings which is based on the energy usage in the building over its area expressed in kWh/sqm/year. DESIGNATED CONSUMERS As per the provision of the clause (e) and (f) of section (14) of the Energy Conservation (EC) Act 2001, the Central Government notified the criteria for Designated Consumers vide S.O no. 394(E) dated 12 th March, 2007 under which industrial units from 9 energy intensive sectors (Aluminum, Cement, Chlor-Alkali, Fertilizer, Iron & Steel, Paper & Pulp, Railways, Thermal Power and Textile) have PAT CYCLE | BUREAU OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY The overall energy saving targets for PAT Cycle –I was 6.686 Million Tonne of Oil Equivalent (MTOE) by the end of 2014-15. The achievement in PAT Cycle-I is 8.67 MTOE which is an over achievement of about 30 percent in comparison to the assigned targets. This energy saving translates in to avoiding about 31 million tonne of CO2 emission. 2.2 E-MOBILITY | BUREAU OF ENERGY EFFICIENCY E-Mobility. The transport sector accounts for 18% of total energy consumption in India. This translates to an estimated 94 million tonnes of oil equivalent (MTOE) energy. If India were to follow the current trends of energy consumption, it would require an estimated 200 MTOE of energy supply annually, by the year 2030 to meet thedemand of this

MESSAGE
With the growth of economy, the demand for energy has grown substantially. Further, the high level of energy intensity in some of the sectors is a matter of concern. In such a scenario efficient use of energy resources and their conservation assume tremendous significance and is essential for curtailment of wasteful consumption and sustainable development. Recognizing the fact that efficient use of energy and its conservation is the least-cost option to meet the increasing energy demand, Government of India has enacted the Energy Conservation Act, 2001 and established the Bureau of Energy Efficiency in March, 2002. The Act provides for institutionalizing and strengthening delivery mechanism for energy efficiency services in the country and provides the much-needed coordination between the various entities. Energy saving is a national cause and all of us will have to join hands and make all out efforts in making India an energy efficient economy and society so that not only we remain competitive within our own market but also are able to compete in the international market.Mr. Abhay Bakre
