While manoeuvring within the boundaries of the pandemic and using the time as useful as possible, Bark EUROPA visited several Dutch ports and has received a lot of care and attention in our maintenance periods over the last year.

The EUROPA was built in 1911 under the name of “Senator Brockes” at the Stulcken shipyard in Hamburg, at the request of the city of Hamburg. The ship was put into service as Elbe 3 lightship on the river Elbe, and later worked as a stand-by vessel. In 1986 the ship was brought to the Netherlands. Over a period of 8 years, she was completely rebuilt and rigged as a three-masted bark.

Fellow crew. The ship enjoys the company of a very international crew and voyage crew/trainees and not a voyage is the same. All have this special connection with the sea.

The past year had us practising in changing directions, adapting to the winds and focusing on possibilities. While manoeuvring within the boundaries of the pandemic and using the time as useful as possible, Bark EUROPA visited several Dutch ports and has received a lot of care and attention in our maintenance periods over the last year.

BARK EUROPA

The EUROPA was built in 1911 under the name of “Senator Brockes” at the Stulcken shipyard in Hamburg, at the request of the city of Hamburg. The ship was put into service as Elbe 3 lightship on the river Elbe, and later worked as a stand-by vessel. In 1986 the ship was brought to the Netherlands. Over a period of 8 years, she was completely rebuilt and rigged as a three-masted bark.

The watch system. Bark EUROPA sails 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Sail handling can happen at any moment and therefore we work with a watch system. Participating in sailing and running Bark EUROPA is a big part of the overall experience on board. It will put you out of your comfort zone and into the world of tall ship sailing.

The Friends of Bark EUROPA not only focus on funding trainees, but also on contributing to keep the ship in shape. Bark EUROPA was built in 1911 and while still being a strong old lady, she nevertheless needs a lot of care and maintenance. As a friend, you can help to keep the EUROPA wandering the oceans for many years to come.
