SPECTROSCOPY IN SOIL ANALYSIS RETASK THE MASK: UK SOCIAL ENTERPRISE LAUNCHES RECYCLING The UK’s first campaign to recycle single-use facemasks into a new ‘green’ product has been launched. Cornwall social enterprise Waterhaul is leading the ‘Retask the Mask’ campaign to combat the environmental impact of face masks and has chosen Earth Day (April 22) to begin the initiative.. NET ZERO: DESPITE THE GREENWASH, IT’S VITAL FOR TACKLING Yet that is where we find ourselves with the concept of “net zero” – the point at which any remaining emissions of greenhouse gases are balanced with absorption, halting further warming of the climate. The necessity of reaching net zero emissions globally is abundantly proven in science, and governments pledged in the 2015 Paris Agreement to achieve “a balance between anthropogenic SOIL SAMPLING OF CONTAMINATED LAND Assume 5 depth horizons for each location between surface and 3 m. SOIL SAMPLING OF CONTAMINATED LAND Site sampling. Soil samples can be taken by a variety of methods, depending on the location, depth, and type of samples required. The weight of soil required for laboratory testing is usually 1 – 2 kg, but if the material to be tested is very chunky (> 20 mm particle size), then more material may be required in order for the laboratory to take a representative sub sample for testing. PESTICIDES, PHARMACEUTICALS, PFAS AND PLASTICS Pesticides – parent compounds and metabolites. Pharmaceuticals – both human and veterinary. Life style products – nicotine, caffeine, sweeteners. Personal care – DEET, parabens, triclosan, musks, UV filters. Food additives – BHA, BHT (both preservatives) Water treatment by-products – NDMA, THM. Fire retardants – PBDE, alkyl EMISSIONS AND AIR QUALITY ELVs are defined for SO2, NOx and dust for large combustion plant fired by solid and liquid fuels and also CO for gas fired plant (Table 1). ENVIRONMENTAL SOUND MONITORING Environmental noise monitoring is undertaken to understand and assess the effects of sound on people living and working within the vicinity of sound sources. There are several purposes for monitoring such as to understand the baseline sound climate, to compare levels against defined limits, to investigate noise complaints or perhaps understand OIL IN WATER ANALYSIS Dispersed oil refers to oil in water in the form of small droplets, which may range from sub-microns to hundreds of microns. It may contain aliphatic, aromatic hydrocarbons and other organics, e.g. acids and phenols. Dissolved oil refers to oil in water in a soluble form. Aliphatic hydrocarbons in general have very low solubility inwater.

MEMMERT PRESENTS ADVANCED PELTIER TECHNOLOGY Significantly reduced energy consumption. With the introduction of the Peltier-cooled incubator IPP in 2000, Memmert was the first manufacturer worldwide to prove that energy-saving Peltier technology can also be used for heating and cooling powerful temperature controlappliances.
SOIL SAMPLING OF CONTAMINATED LAND Assume 5 depth horizons for each location between surface and 3 m. Assume a soil specific gravity of 2.5. Thus we have a volume of soil a hectare square and 3 m deep – the weight of soil in this is 75,000 tonnes. Therefore the weight of soil represented with each 1 kg sample submitted is 882 tonnes, or 0.0003 % of the site. EMISSIONS AND AIR QUALITY ELVs are defined for SO2, NOx and dust for large combustion plant fired by solid and liquid fuels and also CO for gas fired plant (Table 1). ELVs are also defined for gas turbines (Table 2). ELVs apply during normal operation only for all plant types (excluding start-up and shut-down) and only above 70% of ISO base load for gas turbines. POSITIONERS WITH IO-LINK CONNECTION For the first time, the intelligent positioners Type 8694 and Type 8791 are also available with an IO-Link interface. Bürkert Fluid Control Systems is the first supplier to offer its customers simple and, at the same time, intelligent networking of control valves atfield level.
