The education year has now started for several education levels, though the university sector remains greatly disrupted with the impact of the coronavirus outbreak. In the meantime, multiple options are being looked at to minimise the impact it is having and these will hopefully provide workable solutions for all concerned within a shortperiod of time.
Similarly, the effects of fires and floods within Australia have also impacted numerous areas. Steps are also being taken to cover both physical and mental impacts stemming from these. Work continues in updating the site. To this point, most work has been done behind the scenes. Visible changes remain restricted to the home page. Some of these may still be modified. Structural changewill continue.
We previously indicated a number of pages had been targetted for specific review to ensure they are as up-to-date as possible. The first of these, both Scholarship pages, will appear during March. In addition, we will be adding links to a number of other pages. We continue to seek recommendations for other quality inclusions currently not found on these. You would now be aware we have changed the online contact for the site. With virtually no recent usage, we will be closing that email account as of 15 March 2020. If you are wanting to contact us please be sure to use the new account to do so. Thank you to those who havealready switched.
There is an unending supply of documents being produced about all aspects of education both here and overseas. It is difficult at times to select only a few each month . Several recent items listed below are felt to warrant at least a brief mention. All bar one are from the last half of 2019, so are really current. See what you think about each and whether you agree or not. Most are Australian in origin. Follow links that pique your particular interest. __ Australian investment in education : vocational education andtraining
A review of who is funding vocational education and the changes in this over the last decade or so stemming from a number of reforms during the same period. Included are items such as the VET FEE-HELP funding and contestable markets for the provision of training. Information is presented under a series of headings such as How much do Australian governments invest in education provision in VET ? and How did funding reforms impact VET ?. Extensive data is provided to clarify responses for each of these. __ How teachers update their teaching skills to cope with the rapidlychanging world
OECD. ‘Continuous professional development is crucial for teacher’s professionalism, and affects teaching practices in the classroom. In addition, teachers’ self-efficacy and job satisfaction are higher when professional development has a positive impact on their work. Teachers have expressed a high need for CPD in new and often challenging areas’. Interesting findings covering a wide range of countries. Part of a series of topics as part of TALIS. __ Improving Students’ Learning With Effective Learning Techniques :. . .
Promising Directions From Cognitive and Educational Psychology. ‘Improving educational outcomes will require efforts on many fronts, but a central premise of this monograph is that one part of a solution involves helping students to better regulate their learning through the use of effective learning techniques. In this monograph, we discuss 10 learning techniques in detail and offer recommendations about their relative utility. We selected techniques that were expected to be relatively easy to use and hence could be adopted by many students’. Do you, or can you, use any or all of these ? __ Initial Teacher Education : Data Report 2019 AITSL. ‘By learning about Initial Teacher Education, we can gain key insights into the future of teaching. Each year, AITSL brings you the ITE Data Report, based on extensive research and data into Initial Teacher Education’. Includes the Report , highlights and more. Choose everything, or simply the sections you want. Brief but comprehensive. __ The dynamics of qualifications : implications for VET ‘Changes in the qualification profiles of workers is one indicator of changes in the supply and demand for education and training. Using Australian Census data on highest qualification held this project analyses how tertiary qualification profiles in occupations changed between 2006 and 2016. A specific focus of this analysis is on changes in the proportions of workers with vocational education and training qualifications’. __ Towards inclusive education : a necessary process of transformation Two documents form the core of this research. ‘Building on the research base for inclusive education outlined in the first edition, this second edition consists of an extensive systematic literature review. It examines evidence across six decades and incorporates more than 400 research papers, relevant treaties and reports, to further explore the existing barriers and the possibilities for addressing these to bring about the realisation of inclusive education’. Wellworth reading.
