HOUSE IN THE PINES (CAP FERRET HOUSE) / LACATON & VASSAL Anne Lacaton & Jean-Philippe Vassal, the French architect couple winner of the Pritzker 2021 Prize, designed the Cap Ferret house in 1998 on an undeveloped plot in Arcachon Bay to minimize disruption to the natural environment.Rather than taking down any of the 46 trees on the site, the architects nurtured the native vegetation, elevating the home and building around the trunks, allowing MOORE HOUSE IN ORINDA / CHARLES MOORE The Orinda House designed by architect Charles W. Moore for himself in 1962 is located in a valley behind San Francisco. In this project, Moore experimented with very simple means the possibility to recreate a project that could embody references to different moments of architectural history and that would allow an unconventional distribution and articulation of space. FRANK GEHRY HOUSE IN SANTA MONICA / GEHRY PARTNERS About Frank Gehry. Frank Gehry established his practice in Los Angeles, California, in 1962, and in 2001 he formed the Gehry partnership, Gehry Partners, LLP. FALLINGWATER HOUSE BY FRANK LLOYD WRIGHT / EDGAR J Completed in 1937, Fallingwater was built as a private retreat for the Pittsburgh department-store magnate Edgar J. Kaufmann in Mill Run, Pennsylvania. The house would serve as their weekend home out in the country, roughly 75 miles (121 kilometers) outside Pittsburgh. Kaufmann and his wife, Liliane, were impressed by Wright’s workafter
KIYONORI KIKUTAKE SKY HOUSE IN TOKYO, JAPAN Sky House was designed and built by the Japanese architect Kiyonori Kikutake (1928-2011) for himself in 1958. The project still stands out as a landmark to his long-lasting architectural convictions. A founding individual of the Metabolist movement, Kikutake established the framework for structural planning and new models of urbancommunities.
BIANCHI HOUSE AT RIVA SAN VITALE / MARIO BOTTA The Bianchi House was designed by Italian architect Mario Botta in 1971. Built on a sharply inclined hillside above the village of Riva San Vitale on the shores of Lake Lugano, the house is set in the lower part of the plot and laid out on different levels like a tower. WHITE U HOUSE IN TOKYO / TOYO ITO The famous Japanese architect Toyo Ito designed the white U House in 1976 for his older sister, who had just lost her husband to cancer. Built-in the center of Tokyo, it was demolished in 1997. VILLA CAPRA LA ROTONDA / ANDREA PALLADIO Completed in 1592, la Villa Capra “La Rotonda” was designed by Andrea Palladio in 1567. Commissioned by Paolo Almerico, he asked the architect to create a place for his recreation, a building that combined the housing needs with duties, a place where he could spend his last years between lethargy and ‘holy agriculture.’ ARCHITECTURE NEWS AND PROJECTS Higueras House / COA arquitectura.
