And yet, the name offers something different. It’s spare and straightforward. Pioneering computer programmer Ada Lovelace makes this name a vintage antique with a sciences edge. NAMES LIKE SADIE: 16 GREAT ALTERNATIVES DAISY. Current US popularity rank: #164. At first glance, Daisy is nothing like Sadie. It’s a flower name, more of a complete choice than sweet diminutive. And yet, the two names share the same sounds – just swap the D and the S. Plus, Daisy can be short for Margaret, which makes it
NAMES LIKE CHARLOTTE: TEN GREAT SUBSTITUTES ADELAIDE. Current US popularity rank: #298. 2017 US popularity rank: #276. There’s been a Queen Adelaide, just like Charlotte, both from the same era. Both queens share their names with cities, too. And they’re both tailored, but feminine, choices. So there are reasons aplenty to see Adelaide as a substitute for Charlotte. BABY NAME HUGO: STORIED AND SPIRITED The Germanic Hugh means mind, heart, or spirit. At the end of the 900s, Hugh Capet ruled the Franks. It remained popular in the region, and the Normans brought it to England with them a century later. It became very English, indeed, thanks to Saint Hugh, the Bishop of Lincoln. The baby name Hugo is simply the Latinized version of Hugh. PLUMERIA: BABY NAME OF THE DAY Lily and Daisy and Rose have all been popular in recent years. But some parents are intrigued by even bolder floral name possibilities, ranging from the pan-botanicals, like Blossom and Petal, to unexpected flower names, like Edelweiss.. Plumeria is definitely among the latter. The flowering plant is native to Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America, and the Caribbean. BABY NAME IVELISSE: LOVELY AND OBSCURE The baby name Ivelisse was given to 28 girls in 2019. It first appeared in the US data in 1952, with five births – suggesting that it was also – at least initially – tied to the French photo-story from the Italian novel. Ivelise and Iveliz appear beginning in the late 1960s, but in very small numbers. BABY NAME OF THE DAY: KELSEY She’s a surname choice boosted by a TV show – but she’d probably have caught on anyway.. Thanks to Urban Angel for suggesting Kelsey as Baby Name of the Day.. If you were watching LA Law in the 80s – and everyone was watching LA Law in the 80s – you’ll probably recall Jill Eikenberry’s character, Ann Kelsey. Let’s talk about the best Disney boy names. Sure, we tend to focus on all those girls named after princesses. Jasmine and Ariel, I’m looking at you. But the boys get names every bit as daring and creative and yes, influential, too. A bonus with Disney boy names? They tend to fly under the radar. We love Elsa, but the character – and her “Let It Go” anthem – stamp the name with the royal seal of Arendelle. None of these dozen choices feels nearly as wedded to the character – even though a few clearly succeeded thanks to a generous sprinkling of pixie dust. In fact, the only boys’ name that seems too tied to Disney might beMickey himself.
This list draws from Disney and Pixar flicks, but I’ve not touched the extensive Marvel Avengers universe, and Star Wars? Well, you can find my favorite picks from a galaxy far, far away right here.
Now, on to my picks for a dozen of the best Disney boy names. SUNDAY SUMMARY: THE SARAH CONNOR OPPORTUNITY August 11, 2019 By appellationmountain7
