OFFICE OF GENERAL COUNSEL The Architect of the Capitol's (AOC) General Counsel provides legal counsel on matters involving construction and service contracts, occupational safety and health matters, labor management and employee relations, environmental issues, new and proposed legislation, insurance and liability, and property acquisition management. HOUSE OFFICE BUILDINGS The Architect of the Capitol's (AOC) House Office Buildings jurisdiction is responsible for the operation, maintenance and preservation of more than 5 million square feet of facility space, including the Cannon, Ford, Longworth, O'Neill and Rayburn House office buildings, underground garages, annexes and subways. With oversight for daily domestic care, repairs and maintenance at these O'NEILL HOUSE OFFICE BUILDING The O'Neill House Office Building was constructed in the early 1960s for use as Food and Drug Administration laboratories. It is one of the few federal buildings completed during the presidency of John F. Kennedy and the cornerstone bears his name as a result. The Inspector General is responsible for promoting the integrity, efficiency and effectiveness of the Architect of the Capitol's operations and programs. Their team conducts independent audits and investigations, and recommends policies to detect and prevent fraud,waste and abuse.

His design was meant to create a park like setting that would focus attention on the great Capitol Building. Trees were heavily used in Olmsted's design to both frame the NATIONAL STATUARY HALL COLLECTION BY LOCATION The entire collection now consists of 100 statues contributed by 50 states. Thirty-five statues are currently located in National Statuary Hall, 24 in the Capitol Visitor Center, 13 in the Crypt, 13 in the Hall of Columns and six in the Rotunda. The remaining statues are located in various areas throughout the House and Senate wings of theCapitol.
RUSSELL SENATE OFFICE BUILDING The Russell Senate Office Building (built 1903-1908) is the oldest of the Senate office buildings as well as a significant example of the Beaux Arts style. The first congressional office buildings were constructed immediately after the turn of the century to relieve overcrowding in the U.S. Capitol Building.
