ASK JOHN: WHAT WENT WRONG WITH KITE LIBERATOR While Kite Liberator isn’t entirely sanitized, the graphic sex of Yellow Star, A-Kite, and Mezzo is gone. And the graphic violence in Kite Liberator feels lessened in both frequency and visual impact. Furthermore, the tense, exciting, and death-defying action that characterized A-Kite and Mezzo Forte is noticably absent in KiteLiberator.
ASK JOHN: WHY DOES ANIME FEEL DIFFERENT THAN AMERICAN American cartoons use witticism, humor, action, suspense, bright colors and motion to captivate the audience’s attention. ASK JOHN: WHAT’S THE MEANING OF ME!ME!ME! The “Otaku Culture Criticism” interpretation of ME!ME!ME! never really sat right with me. It always felt to me like the Western critics saw the Eva figures and the model kit, concluded “this guy is an otaku” and went on to base everything off of that, rather than looking at the whole work, because it’s another chance to criticize Japanese otaku, whom many of them revile. ASK JOHN: WHAT DOES THE PENTAGRAM MEAN IN JAPAN The pentagram, or five pointed star symbolizing the five basic elements – tree, fire, soil, gold and water – is the mark of the onmyouji. It is the inverted pentagram inside a circle which is considered a symbol of evil. As you’ve guessed, the inverted pentagram has relatively the same significance in Japan that it doesin the West.

ASK JOHN: ARE ANIME CHARACTERS NAMED AFTER FOOD Answer: I’m honestly not sure why anime characters are occasionally named after food, but the event is not all that uncommon. Akira Toriyama and Akahori Satoru are the main two creators responsible. Many of the character names in Dragonball are based on the names of food. Here are just a few examples. Kakaroto (Goku): carrot. Gohan:cooked rice.

I’ve made an effort, but there are sure to be releases I’ve ASK JOHN: WHY DOES ANIME USE FILLER EPISODES Filler episodes are a necessary evil, a bridge between the high points in an anime adaptation. It’s virtually inevitable that anime screenwriters and directors won’t be able to create original storylines that are as good as those created by the series’ original creator. After all, manga creators specialize in creating manga andanimators
ASK JOHN: WHY DO AMERICANS HATE HAREM ANIME? Answer: This is a particularly difficult question to address for two reasons. First, generally speaking it’s not the entire “harem anime” genre that’s unpopular in America. It’s only certain titles within the genre that American fans often seem to disapprove of. Second, I think the common contemporary American reaction to“harem

ASK JOHN: IS LEE SHAORAN GAY? In the original Japanese Card Captor Sakura, Shaoran Lee is obviously attracted to Yukito, but the attraction is not homosexual in nature.
