Welcome to the Anglo Boer War site. This site's aim is to make available information on the Anglo Boer War 1899 - 1902 and other South African conflicts in the period 1779-1906 and to provide a forum for discussion of the many aspects of these conflicts. The strength of an infantry brigade was around 4,700 men, 373 horses, 4 machine guns and 85 vehicles. The combat strength was 3,520 rifles. A battalion contained of: 29 officers. 2 Warrant Officers. 45 Sergeants. 16 Drummers. 40 Corporals. 900 privates.ANGLO BOER WAR

Six officers and 4 non-commissioned officers and men were mentioned in Lord Roberts' despatch of 31st March 1900. The battalion was engaged at Leeuwkop, south-east of Bloemfontein, on 22nd April, when they lost CaptainProthero and 1

The destruction by the Boers of the iron girder bridge at Frere seriously impeded the advance of Sir Redvers Buller, and the construction of the substitute was a triumph of skill on the part of the Royal Engineers.ANGLO BOER WAR
The work of the Vlth Division has been sketched under the East Kent Regiment and that of the 18th Brigade under the 1st Yorkshire Regiment. With this small party Steinaecker left Eshowe on 3rd April 1900, and rode or walked through Zululand and Swaziland, a distance of 500 miles. Their horses having died of horse-sickness, the party were on foot when the Transvaal border was reached. The artillery introduced for the howitzer batteries is a steel gun with a calibre of 5-in., weighing, inclusive of lock, 1,066.5 lb and with a length of about 3-ft, 9in. The IMR was commanded by Lieutenant-Colonel Sir Percy Girouard. At the end of the war, in July 1902, the IMR became the Central South AfricanRailways

On the latter date they left over 40 dead on the ground. In January, February, and March 1902 the Bechuanaland Rifle Volunteers were generally with or under Lord Methuen. A detachment was in the force which escorted the convoy captured near Klerksdorp on 25th February 1902. On this occasion the Rifles had 5 killed and about the samenumber wounded.
