In a male hegemonic society of ancient Rome, throughout her lifetime, Agrippina exhibited unprecedented power, through the manipulation and control of the most powerful men in Rome. A childhood full of heinous mistreatment and injustice, taught her the importance of power, and spurred her insatiable lust for power throughout her life. During her brother Caligula’s reign, she enacted her childhood lessons and began to use her sexual allure as impetus for her political career. After being banished from Rome, and stripped of power, Agrippina resurrected her political career by marrying the Emperor, her Uncle Claudius, whom she persuaded to change the laws of marriage thus securing her son Nero's succession to the throne. Her final display of dominance was demonstrated by the influence she wielded over her son Nero, during his reign as Emperor, where she assumed the powers of Emperor without the title. During her life, Agrippina was bestowed with enormous power and privilege which was unique for a women in theAncient world.
