The American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture (AAVA) is a 501 C-3 not-for-profit organization formed in 1998 to meet the needs of American Veterinary Acupuncturists. The AAVA's mission is to improve animal health care by the advancement of veterinary acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine, and Traditional Eastern Medicine through education, research, and AAVA | WHAT IS ACUPUNCTURE? Acupuncture can result in a relaxed state, which can be misinterpreted as lethargy or a worsening condition. This is temporary and indicates that the animal is indeed sensitive to the effects of acupuncture. Your veterinarian will adjust the treatment, if needed, at your nest visit. Acupuncture needles are sterilized, so infection from the AAVA | FAAVA CERTIFICATION The certification process involves completion of two phases a formal application and the examination. The application includes: curriculum vitae; a synopsis of clinical practice; peer evaluation forms; documentation of a minimum of 50 hours of AAVA approved acupuncture/TCM continuing education; and submission and acceptance of two acupuncture clinical case reports.
