It has been a very busy year so far and we have lost another board member and best friend, Carl Shultz, who died June 5th of this year. He was 81 years old and served on the board of directors of the 101 Ranch Old Timers Association. We finally got all the fencing fixed up after all the flooding we had earlier this year. I want to thank my son Carl and Dalton LeClair for all their help in the repairs. We sure had a lot of water go through the Ranch site during all the flooding we had. I want to remind all of our members of our annual meeting and reunion to be held on SEPTEMBER 14, 2019. It will be held in the Community center in Marland, Oklahoma. Doors will be open at 9:00 a.m. and I hope all of you can make it. Director Gary Smith will be Dutch oven cooking the dinner again this year. I’m sure it will be good. Gary will be cooking just south of the Community building so come and watch an old chef do his thing.
God bless,
KENNETH EVANS
President, 101 Ranch Old Timers Editor's Corner
Greetings fellow Old Timers, We have experienced a very wet spring and summer this year. Lots of rain and lots of grass to mow. The 101 Ranch headquarters site was pretty messed up after all the flood water receded earlier this year. A lot of work has been by some of our members and the site is looking pretty good again. I want to thank Jerry Jansma and James Hopkins for all the work they have done after the flooding. And, also Kenneth Evans, Carl Evans and Dalton LeClair for all the work they put in getting the site cleaned up and the fences repaired. A hearty thanks to all.
Our museum has had some changes made and things look different in the show cases. We continue to have visitors come to the museum and some request someone to talk to them about the museum so if I am available, I go down and take them on a tour and answer their questions. Our Wine Tasting Party went well. We didn’t have quite the crowd we usually do but all in all everyone had a good time. Our 101 Ranch Old Timers Annual Reunion and Meeting will be held on SEPTEMBER 14TH in the MARLAND COMMUNITY CENTER and I hope you will be able to attend. It is a chance to share some time with old acquaintance and a good time to strike up some new ones. Our old members are dwindling away fast and soon new ones will have to step up and take over. The 101 Ranch history mustn’t be left to die after so many past and present members have kept it alive for so long. Any way I hope you all have a pleasant Fall season and hopefully we will be seeing each other in the days to come. Keep a big smile on your face, it confuses some people. JOE GLASER
Editor, 101 Ranch Old Timers 101 Ranch Old Timers Annual Reunion is Almost Upon Us I apologize for not getting this newsletter out earlier but this has been an extra busy summer. Our annual reunion will be held on SEPTEMBER 14TH IN THE MARLAND, OKLAHOMA COMMUNITY CENTER. Doors will be open at 9:00 a.m. and it is hoped we have a good attendance this year.
Gary Smith will be providing the Dutch oven meal again this year so come and watch the chef work the fires under a number of large Dutch ovens and then dig into a good meal. While Gary is doing his cooking thing, everyone can sit around and visit, tell tall tales about the 101 Ranch or maybe just sit and listen to Carlie Evans play the piano. Carlie played last year at our reunion and I for one am looking forward to listening to her gain the year.
We will conduct our annual meeting after everyone is finished with the eating and have our election of officers. This is the time for all members who want to add input to the running of our organization to come and be heard. We hope to see you at the reunion. Membership Dues
Just a friendly reminder for those of you who haven't paid your dues yet. If you are not sure just call me and I will let you know, _580-763-3907_. Don't forget our 101 Ranch Museum. We are always looking for items to place on exhibit if you have anything to donate or put on loan for a time. If you know of any 101 items for sale please let your officers know. If we can afford them we will try to buy them. Director Carol Shultz Passed Away Carol LeRoy Shultz longtime Rodeo and Board member of the 101 Ranch Rodeo was called to his eternal rodeo roundup. Carl was 81 years of age. He was born November 21, 1937 in Ponca City, OK to LeRoy C and Lorrance Freeman Shultz. Carl grew up in Kay and Noble Counties and on August 8, 1959 he met the love of his life, Mary Alice Moon, and they made their home in Marland. Carl was a pipeline welder and his passion was trick roping and riding in rodeos on his favorite horse “Shugg”. He was very active with the 101 Ranch Rodeo and he served several years on the Board. He was also a member of the PRCA and the Pipefitters Union. Carl was also a Director of the 101 Ranch Old Timers Association until he died. He loved the history of the 101 Ranch and enjoyed talking about the 101.
We Have Lost Another Friend of The 101 Ranch Shortly after the newsletter was printed and sent out to our members, we were notified that one of our members, Pam Wegher Carlson, had passed away after a year long fight with cancer. Pam was always a happy lady, always greeting people with a big smile and words of friendship.
Pam enjoyed looking for 101 Ranch history and the thrill of finding items of the 101 Ranch era to buy and collect. She looked forward to attending our annual shows and being able to visit with anyone who would talk about the 101 Ranch and most any other western history. Pam had a beautiful outlook on life, met people with a big smile and was always ready to visit with them. We will miss her and our thoughts and prayers go to all her loved ones she left behind. Always a perennial favorite part of the Wild West Show first introduced in the original 1905 show, Native American performers attack the settlers wagon train complete with plenty of loud blank gunfire, black powder smoke and swirling dust. The act was seen in a number of subsequent movie scenes. Home | About | History | Board Members | Products | Links
