Old-Ass Building: Northside Lithuanian Republican Alliance of Philadelphia Clubhouse. 1218 Wallace Street. Photo by Mr. Fox. This weird-looking building just begs for its story to be told. Check it out at Naked Philly ! Posted by GroJLart at 3:51 PM 2 Comments. PHILAPHILIA: BUTT-FUGLY BUILDING: FREE LIBRARY OF Butt-Fugly Building: Free Library of Philadelphia Charles Santore Branch. 932 South 7th Street. Fuck this bomb-shelter looking piece of shit right here. I don't care how much people might like it. This 51-year-old asspile is just yet another mid-century building in the city that proves, like many others, that these type of designs don'tstand
PHILAPHILIA: FILL THIS FRONT: BROAD & SPRUCE And it did. Despite mixed reviews, only one bell from Craig LaBan, and a stench that made Broad and Spruce smell like shit 24 hours a day, the bison meat-featuring chain did well enough to stay open until 2011. After they finally moved out (don't worry, Ted's fans, there's a location in Warrington), the word on the street was that the recently-ousted-from-their-space Italian Eatery was going PHILAPHILIA: FILL THIS FRONT: THE WITHERSPOON BUILDING This is a goddamn disgrace. A ghost of it's former self. What a kick-ass building this once was. Not that it's so horrible now, it just doesn't really stand out the way it did when it was in its prime. Very few ever realize that this building is 100 years old. It's been mangled, then mangled again, then unmangled inits long and
PHILAPHILIA: LOST BRIDGE OF THE WEEK-- JANUARY 4TH Lost Bridge of the Week-- January 4th. No one ever covers bridges anymore. This thing was crazy a covered multi-modal bridge 800 feet long from 1838. They called it the Newkirk Viaduct, but most people just called it what the span in the same spot is called today: the Grays Ferry Bridge. In the mid 19th century, if you wanted to travelto

This was the house that made Rittenhouse Square out of Shittenhouse Square. Without this mansion and associated properties, no one would give two shits about Rittenhouse today. On top of all that, its pretty fucking awesome-looing. PHILAPHILIA: DEAD-ASS PROPOSAL OF THE WEEK-- SEPTEMBER 29TH Dead-Ass Proposal of the Week-- September 29th. What a shitty idea. Ah, the Delaware waterfront. So many dead proposals related to it, so little time. This river is a curse to development. Most of the time, that curse sucks. PHILAPHILIA: LOST BUILDING OF THE WEEK-- MAY 16TH Lost Building of the Week-- May 16th. This is one guy's house. Image from the PAB. This is it. This was the house that made Rittenhouse Square out of Shittenhouse Square. Without this mansion and associated properties, no one would give two shits about Rittenhouse today. On top of all that, its pretty fucking awesome-looing. PHILAPHILIA: 02/01/2016 The builders of this awesome structure must have had some level of prescience-- they built a flower building right near a place Flower Shows would occur every year! PHILAPHILIA: MYSTERY BUILDING OF THE WEEK-- FEBRUARY 27TH Mystery Building of the Week-- February 27th. Here it is. Known to most people as the Long Building with the Whales, the Marketplace Design Center appears to have popped up mysteriously in the early 20th Century and kept on truckin' despite numerous plans to take it down. Though most of its history is known, how it got to be there is still a PHILAPHILIA: MYSTERY BUTT-FUGLY BUILDING OF THE WEEK This has to be one of the worst ways a modern building meets a residential street in Philadelphia. PHILAPHILIA: BUTT-FUGLY BUILDING OF THE WEEK-- JUNE 28TH Ya know, I try to avoid talking shit about UPenn's, Drexel's, and Temple's Butt-Fugly buildings. People just sort of expect 20th Century college architecture to look like shit.PHILAPHILIA

Fuck this bomb-shelter looking piece of shit right here. I don't care how much people might like it. This 51-year-old asspile is just yet another mid-century building in the city that proves, like many others, that these type of designs don'tstand
PHILAPHILIA: LOST BUILDING OF THE WEEK-- JUNE 1ST Lost Building of the Week-- June 1st. The Arcade Building aka Commercial Trust Building. 15th and Market Streets. You've probably driven through the site of this building like 5 million times. Image from Cardcow.com. Go buy one. Wow, just look at this shit. This was Frank Furness at his best. PHILAPHILIA: 99 YEARS AGO IN PHILADELPHIA: MIDDLE OF Hugh McCrane was a bum that primarily hung out at the corner of Front and York in Kensington who apparently loved himself some Christmas. Upon passing a store that had a large stuffed Santa Claus on display, he ripped the beard off of it and somehow stuck it to his own face. PHILAPHILIA: BUTT-FUGLY BUILDING: SOUTHEASTERN PhillyHistory.org. By the 1960s, it had become an apartment building. People just sort of expect 20th Century college architecture to look like shit. PHILAPHILIA: BUTT-FUGLY PUBLIC ART OF THE WEEK-- APRIL 12TH The tower was different from the original design.. the windows were gone and the bottom section was opened up. Smaller rectangular openings were placed at the top-- seemingly to accommodate theBicentennial Bell.
PHILAPHILIA: BUTT-FUGLY BUILDING: CONGREGATION MIKVEH The Congregation then hired the successor firm of Paul Phillipe Cret, Harbeson, Hough, Livingston & Larson (now H2L2), for what would by far be their worst design-- which is saying something considering that they're the ones who "modernized" the facade of the Real Estate Trust Company Building. From 1972-1975, Mikveh Israel tried to raise enough money to get the new place built, but still came PHILAPHILIA: PARKING GARAGE OF THE WEEK-- AVENUE OF THE In 1999, the Arts Center was the one that finally got built there, and while it was under construction, people started to crow about how this great new place was going to need some supplementary parking, even though an underground garage was planned for it (that underground garage is managed by Parkway). PHILAPHILIA: BUTT-FUGLY BUILDING OF THE WEEK-- JUNE 14TH That's right the butt-fugly Doubletree was built on the ashes of the great Hotel Walton. The story of what we now call the Doubletree started with none other than the Great Wall of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Cool-ass shit that you would want on the river just never fucking gets built. This is a situation where the curse worked PHILAPHILIA: EMPTY LOT OF THE WEEK-- MAY 5TH This was a guy's house. PHILAPHILIA: FILL THIS FRONT: 1900 ARCH If that's not enough for you because at this point you must be nuts, the tallest goddamn building in the entire city that includes a motherfucking high-end-ass hotel is being built across the street and after that, the same developer is eyeing up the corner across the other street for another big-ass building in the future. That means that if you can stick it out at this storefront for awhile PHILAPHILIA: DEAD-ASS PROPOSAL OF THE WEEK-- JANUARY 5TH The windows would be constructed from a diagonal wiremesh screen that would conduct a shitload of heat from sunlight.
