GOPHILLYGO | PARKS ON TAP AT TRAILS END The South to Christian trail was designed by SRDC, the City of Philadelphia and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to build a trail segment along the east bank of the Schuylkill from South Street to the vicinity of Christian Street. This project extends the popular Schuylkill River Trail by an additional 1,400 feet, closing part of the gap between the Boardwalk and Grays Ferry GOPHILLYGO | JOHN HEINZ NATIONAL WILDLIFE REFUGE Learn about the immersive TrailOff story set at John Heinz NWR. The Visitor Center is closed, but most trails are open with some rolling closures for maintenance. The 1200 acre John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge provides a sanctuary for many species of migratory birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and is home to 80% of PA’s remaining coastal wetlands. GOPHILLYGO | PENNYPACK ON THE DELAWARE Pennypack on the Delaware is a gorgeous 65 acre park hidden behind the Curran-Fromhold prison along the river in the Holmesburg neighborhood of Northeast Philadelphia. The park is accessible by SEPTA Routes 84 and 70, and is near the Holmesburg Regional Rail Station. It’s located where the Pennypack creek meets the Delaware River, and is part of the Northern Delaware Riverfront Greenway. GOPHILLYGO | GLENDINNING ROCK GARDEN Glendinning Rock Garden is a perfect oasis along Kelly Drive below the Girard Avenue Bridge. The large grassy field is dotted with stones and a small pond. Walk to the back, and you will find a shaded area with natural rock formations and a set of stone steps leading up. This is a perfect spot to take a break along the SRT and the rock garden has events during the warmer months. GOPHILLYGO | POQUESSING VALLEY PARK Follow the 1.5 mile paved greenway as it winds along the Poquessing Creek. A separate trail connects Poquessing Valley Park to Benjamin Rush State Park, however it is not paved and can be narrow due to overgrowth. Fern Rock Transportation Center is a short distance away and a number of bus routes pass by the parks east entrances. This modern park has a paved area with benches and a gravel trail that spurs off the K&T segment of the East Coast Greenway (ECG), and winds down to the water before bringing you back to ECG. The highlight of this park is the pier that extends out into the GOPHILLYGO | PENNYPACK ENVIRONMENTAL CENTER Pennypack Environmental Center is located just off of the Pennypack Trail in Northeast Philadelphia. The center is connected via bike lanes along Verree Rd, and a paved on ramp to the trail allows you to quick connection between the trail and bike lane. Today it is one of Philadelphia's three environmental centers, and hosts events and GOPHILLYGO | COBBS CREEK TRAIL Cobbs Creek Trail is a 4.2 mile asphalt trail running along Cobbs Creek in West and Southwest Philadelphia. The northern trailhead is at 63rd and Market streets and the southern trailhead is at Island and Woodland Avenues. Many SEPTA routes get you very close to the trail including the MFL Blue Line, trolleys and buses, as well as several arterial streets with bike lanes. GOPHILLYGO | PARKS ON TAP AT TRAILS END The South to Christian trail was designed by SRDC, the City of Philadelphia and the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to build a trail segment along the east bank of the Schuylkill from South Street to the vicinity of Christian Street. The Visitor Center is closed, but most trails are open with some rolling closures for maintenance. The 1200 acre John Heinz National Wildlife Refuge provides a sanctuary for many species of migratory birds, mammals, amphibians and reptiles, and is home to 80% of PA’s remaining coastal wetlands. GOPHILLYGO | GLENDINNING ROCK GARDEN Glendinning Rock Garden is a perfect oasis along Kelly Drive below the Girard Avenue Bridge. The large grassy field is dotted with stones and a small pond. Walk to the back, and you will find a shaded area with natural rock formations and a set of stone steps leading up. This is a perfect spot to take a break along the SRT and the rock garden has events during the warmer months. GOPHILLYGO | POQUESSING VALLEY PARK Follow the 1.5 mile paved greenway as it winds along the Poquessing Creek. A separate trail connects Poquessing Valley Park to Benjamin Rush State Park, however it is not paved and can be narrow due to overgrowth. Much of the woods are in the process of being reclaimed and brought back to it's natural state, but you can access a maintained trail that follows the fenceline along the western perimeter. This tour starts at the Philadelphia border, across from Fox Chase Farm, and the beginning of the paved portion of Pennpack Bike Path. Getting to Pennypack Environmental Center requires a brief exit from the trail at Veree Rd GOPHILLYGO | BLUE BELL PARK Explore this cozy park in Philadelphia's Blue Bell Hill neighborhood. Visitors will find a pavilion with restrooms, ball fields, and a large grassy area perfect for relaxing. Wooded trails lead you to historic Rittenhouse Town where you can connect to the Wissahickon Bike Trail or follow the Wissahickon Valley Park Orange and connect to ForbiddenDrive.
GOPHILLYGO | FERNS IN THE FOREST Adults and families can join us for a 1-2 mile hike to learn about different ferns in the forest. Registration required. GOPHILLYGO | LAUREL HILL CEMETERY The grounds opened in 1836 as the nation's second major rural cemetery located 3.5 miles from Center City. Today, visitors can walk amongst the final resting places of many people instrumental in shaping the city. The sprawling 78 acres cover beautiful hillside overlooking the river and the Strawberry Mansion Bridge. There's also a museum and programming all year round. Walk. Ride. Pedal. Discover.
