In recent years “designer Peonies” have hit the floral world by storm. You can find huge, bomb like blooms in deep crimson, cherry red, coral, magenta, pure white and even yellow. There are huge fluffy heads, rich cupped singles and the occasional oddity with thin scraggly petals sporting names like Swizzle and Peppermint Sticks. HOW TO GROW RANUNCULUS Corms are planted 9 inches (15 cm) apart at a depth of 2-3 inches (5-7.5 cm) with 4 rows per bed with the "octopus tentacles" pointing down. 6. During cold stretches, when temps dip below freezing, cover the plants with a layer of frost cloth. 7. Ranunculus normally starts to flower about 90 days after planting. FLOWER FOCUS: SNAPDRAGONS Over the past few years, snapdragons have rapidly become one of our most profitable early summer crops. Last season we grew around six thousand plants and sold every useable stem in the patch. I have even more penciled into the plan going forward. Not only are snapdragons beautiful and highly productive, but they’re actually fragrant HOW TO GROW ANEMONES One of the most eye-catching and productive spring bloomers, anemones have been a favorite with our customers for many years. Nasturtium 'Yeti'Tropaeolum majus Each long trailing stem of this beautiful nasturtium is loaded with the softest ivory blooms that have a pale lemon throat. Not only are the blooms an incredible addition to bouquets, the foliage lasts an extremely long time in the vase, ORACH CARAMEL APPLE MIX Orach Caramel Apple MixAtriplex hortensis I discovered this fantastic plant in a friend’s veggie patch some years back and have been a huge fan ever since (the young leaves are edible and are often compared to spinach). Early in the season, harvest the leafy stems en masse for bouquets. If CLARY SAGE CLARY MIX Plant spacing: 8-12”. Pinch: not necessary. Approx seeds per packet: 100. How to Grow: Direct seed once the soil can be worked in the spring, or sow 4 weeks before last frost and transplant out when weather warms. Plants produce an abundance of towering, airy wands that look great in the border, and both pollinators and hummingbirds adore them. The foliage is SILENE BLUSHING LANTERNS Silene 'Blushing Lanterns' Silene vulgaris Tall wispy grey-green stems are covered in miniature pale green balloon-like pods veined with blush. As pods mature they open to reveal snow white petals. Once petals drop, pods remain. Nasturtium 'Yeti'Tropaeolum majus Each long trailing stem of this beautiful nasturtium is loaded with the softest ivory blooms that have a pale lemon throat. Not only are the blooms an incredible addition to bouquets, the foliage lasts an extremely long time in the vase, CLARY SAGE CLARY MIX Plant spacing: 8-12”. Pinch: not necessary. Approx seeds per packet: 100. How to Grow: Direct seed once the soil can be worked in the spring, or sow 4 weeks before last frost and transplant out when weather warms. Located in Washington’s beautiful Skagit Valley, our fields are bursting with flowers that reflect the season. From fragrant sweet peas in the spring to magnificent dinner plate dahlias in the fall and countless varieties in between, we harvest only the best of what is blooming each day. Research is at the heart of our operation, and we conduct extensive trials to find the very best cut flower varieties, coveted for their scent, stem length, and ephemeral qualities. We source these hard to find varieties from the best seed houses in the world and make them available to the home gardener.
