UREA - DHARMA TRADING Recommended for use with Fiber Reactive Dyes when doing tie-dye, painting, printing and other methods of direct application. Urea is a 'moisture drawing' agent or 'humectant' which keeps the fabric damper longer during the curing or fixing process, thereby making for deeper, brighter colors. Fiber Reactive dyes won't "fix" if they dry out! INSTRUCTIONS FOR ACID DYES To make your own liquid acid dyes for silk painting, use the following recipe: Stock Solution. Add 8 oz. TIE-DYE INSTRUCTIONS There are many traditional variations of Tie-dye around the world, including Shibori and Ikat. Here at Dharma, we consider modern tie-dye to be an American art form! Each type is unique, but basically, Tie-dye is a way of creating patterns of color by folding, tying, stitching, crumpling or otherwise preparing the fabric to inhibit the flow of the dye into the folds of the fabric. This is what folks think about as the traditional or oldest felting method. Nuno felting is the process of felting wool roving and/or wool yarns onto another fabric. PAINTS AND DYE TO USE ON SYNTHETIC FABRICS Working on polyester, acrylic, spandex, and other synthetic fabrics can be a little tricky if you aren't careful to use the right product. Most dyes that we carry will wash off, except Pigment Dye (stains almost anything) and iDye Poly or Industrial Poly on Polyester, and Jacquard Basic Dye on acrylic. Nylon is a synthetic fiber that was made to imitate protein, so Acid dyes work on it! WASHING RAYON CLOTHING About Tiered Discount Levels. You can combine cotton and rayon clothing & accessories to get the greatest discounts. Your discount is figured on the total number of cotton and rayon items we ship, not how many of each type, style or size.BATIK INSTRUCTIONS
Let's get started! (Dyeing something a solid color is also known as Tub Dyeing. The Tub Dye Technique is described here in more detail.) Click here for Paint-On Method Batik Instructions.. This method uses repeated layers of wax and dye applied to the fabric, yielding an overlapping color design.HOW ACID DYE WORKS
MANY NEW DYERS are often nervous about Acid dyes when they first hear of them; they think the dyes themselves are harsh flesh eating caustic acids. In reality the acid dyes available to the home dyer are non-caustic and very safe to use. A few are even safe enough to eat - such as those sold as food coloring or used in popular drink mixes (please don't eat the dyes). DHARMA TRADING CO.
